Budget ebikes <$1000

There's not much love here for sub $1k ebikes, so I'd like to start a discussion. There aren't that many choices:

1. DIY is probably the best option at this budget, but not everyone wants to do that

2. Chinese brands like Ancheer. I personally wouldn't trust the batteries & build quality.
3. Used/demos/refurbs. Some options below:

I have some experience putting motors on my bikes, both old beater bikes and new models. I will say this. It's probably cheaper to buy a complete inexpensive ebike. I have to pay the markups for the motor, battery and electrics to middlemen, whereas the importer buys a bike directly from the factory with one smaller markup.

Earlier this year, I bought a Ecotric folding fatbike for $779 shipped. Yeah, I would have spent $500-600 just on motor and battery. I think it's a decent bike, for a fat tire bike, I have a review on it in the "Other" forum where I discuss it. Seems to be some love for it and other Ecotric models on the Ecotric owners group on facebook.

Also a lot of love here at the Lectric XP forum. Their version of the not-so- little folding fatbike was over $1000, but I believe it has been less in the past, and is $879 for Black Friday. They've got their own subforum now,

And then you have several models, Schwinn,Hyper and Kent for under $1000 at Walmart's web site.

I recently reviewed the Lectric XP folding fat tire electric bicycle and found it to be an incredible bang-for-your-buck deal.
The e-bike can hit speeds of up to 28 mph, has a range of 25-50 miles and folds to fit in tight spaces.

Rad Power Bikes has established itself as the industry standard for e-bikes in the US. Juiced Bikes is known for its high power and high-speed electric bikes. Most can hit speeds of up to 28 mph and some go even faster.

ORCA MARK I folding seated scooter
I know this one looks like an e-bike, but it’s actually a seated scooter. It’s also an incredibly powerful scooter with a 48V battery that can last for up to 37 miles. It can also hit a top speed of 21 mph.The scooter offers full suspension and folds to fit into small spaces.

Very true. I don't care too much about return, since it's a huge hassle to ship back a bike, but I'm disappointed that GenZe didn't offer a longer warranty, especially given that I do have authorized GenZe servicers in my area. I think the $1300 deal from Costco last year came with one or two year warranty, but this is less than half the price. I'm waiting for my bike to arrive soon, fingers crossed.

The problem with the under $1000 ebikes for me is small motors and is the frame is too large. Even a Rad Rover was too tall for my 5'6" body. In Washington State I cannot avoid the hills.

Interesting, I'm even shorter but I didn't think a 5'6 person would have problems. I went with the GenZe because it's on sale and has 16" frame option. There are also folding bikes that have small frames. I've ridden hills with a 350W bike and it's slow but not a big deal if you want to get some exercise.
I can't buy a more expensive bike due to rampant bike theft in my area. I saw tons of stolen ebikes on OfferUp.

Theirs not much left under 1000$ us ,a few good ones jumped up in price companies arent giving them up anymore their selling like hotcakes!!!i say buy asap next year you wont find at any price i preordered a radmission for November! Ill be riding it in spring stay safe buddy keep riding

It is a good deal, Lenny’s Genze’s are not the refurbished 1st gen 100 series bikes Genze sold at a discount through their website, but the 2nd gen 200 series bikes Genze supplied to Helbiz Bikeshare in Washington DC and other cities, the Sturmey Archer front drum brake makes it an all weather commuter, and I found the Microshift shifters worked well.
