Bosch Travel Charger

Hi does anyone have 1 or 2 of these to get rid of/sell, working or not? I will pay a decent amount!

I have looked around the web to no avail. This was my solution. Plug my existing Bosch charger into an 12v dc-110v ac inverter. Be sure it is a pure sine wave model

This is for use with Solar and efficiency/weight/volume matters:
Solar Panel --> Charge controller --> and/or LifePo4 battery --> Inverter --> Bosch charger --> Bike :(
So this is essentially DC to Storage/Control to AC and then back down to 36VDC! Hence why conservatively less than 80% efficient!

With the Travel charger it would be:
DC --> DC --> DC.
 
New here and searching for solutions. Does anyone here have a work around? I am waiting for the arrival of my first E-bike, and plan to charge the Bosch Power Pack 500 battery via the house battery in my van. Quick background, partner and I are in the middle of a two year trip through the Americas. Currently tied down at a friends place waiting for the covid to pass and borders to reopen again. Making fine tune adjustments to our rig including purchases like E-bikes while we wait.

I have the ability to charge the Power Pack 500 from DC to AC to DC, but would prefer not to accept the energy losses included with these wasteful steps. Off to find more threads on this topic.

I spent a large amount of money on one of these from the same supplier: https://www.ebay.com/itm/eBIKE-BOSC...482956?hash=item28915cffcc:g:BsYAAOSwSINc6wF~
Their wrapping left a lot to be desired, an old box from something else, completely wrapped in tape and inside a lot of bubble wrap whereby there was a fair bit of moisture inside, not the sort of thing you'd like in today's climate!
However the unit looked brand new, untouched and it works, kind of.
If you plug the battery into it directly it doesn't work, i have a dual battery Bosch and if you plug it into the bike it works, kind of.
It seems to half work and it doesn't seem to charge both batteries. Something to do with the other conductor on the Bosch plug.
Hopefully i'll know more over the next few weeks, as my 2 year warranty comes to a close.

I am fairly certain that these travel chargers cut out by design when the source 12V battery isn’t fully charged. The idea was to protect the auto battery which was assumed to be the primary application. Similarly, your buffer battery needs to be in a near full charge state in steady state. I was able to charge a dual battery set up as long as the source battery didn’t drop by more than several tenths of a volt.

Yes they do but i think we are talking about efficiency here.
And when it comes to inverters, especially Pure Sine inverters, you only get what you pay for. This company's stuff is pretty good: https://www.cotek.com.tw/index.php or in Australia: https://www.redarc.com.au/inverters

If you use an inverter then you have the following situation:
Solar Panel (lets say varying from 15-40 Volts DC) --> Charge controller (lets say 12V, steps the voltage down to 12V to manage the RV/whatever battery) --> Inverter (inverts & steps up 12VDC to 120/240 Volts AC) --> Bosch charger (inverts & steps down 120/240VAC to 42 Volts DC) -- > Bike/Battery (BMS distributes power to each string/bank of cells).
Estimated efficiencies of the above (with quality gear): Charge controller - 98% peak, Inverter - 90%, Bosch charger (Compact 2A) - 88%, BMS - ?.

So at about 25% losses, for the compact 2A charger you need at least a 150W (37.5W wasted due to efficiency loss) Solar panel in bright sun, double that for overcast/cloudy conditions, possibly triple that for winter.
Double those figures for the Standard 4A Bosch charger.

I'll hopefully have a better summary over the coming weeks.
