BBSHD or bbs02b for uber eats hill climb?

Hi new here and nice to meet you all =)

i live in Toronto where there are a decent amount of hills on the east side of the city and have been doing uber eats delivery for the last 3 days and it has been taking a toll on my knees biking up and down. I'm trying to figure out if the BBSHD is overkill or if the bs02b would be good enough and save on the bucks and get a good battery? The second question would be, What's a good battery to last me at least 4-5 hrs going up and down these hills? i would guess something with 48v 17Ah ? thanks!

No one can help you size a battery based on time. You’ll have to explain what percentage of the miles will be on throttle or what level of pedal assist. How fast you’ll be riding, then estimated distance.

bbshd is not overkill, its a more durable and more powerful motor,if you find it has to much juice for your taste just dial it down in settings you will still have the better more durable motor,f*ck good enough! go awesome!
also 4 to 5 hours of riding is kinda vague but i recommend the biggest battery you can find,48v 21ah would be my choice for long hilly rides.

I calculated the distance traveled on my 3 hr shift the other day and it was 19 miles (the longest i had so far) , so im assuming i would need at least a 40 mile range for a 6 hr shift with peddle assist only to climb hills which is 1/4 %25 of the time. I know the 21 ah would certainly do it , but would a 17 be enough?

If by pedal assist only, do you mean max pedal assist? No battery will last for 40 miles at max assist. Especially in the cold when battery performance falls off by at least 1/3.

If you want to pedal and ride your kitted ebike like a bike with assistance the BBS02B is a great motor. BUT it needs the rider to use the bikes gears. For example when coming to a stop. If a rider doesn't shift to take off as you would unassisted the BBS02B can't be lugged and overheat. Taking off from a dead stop with the throttle without having shifted will soon wear out the BBS02B. The BBSHD on the other had is more like clown pedaling. Some users with 7 speed bikes will seldom if ever shift except on hills and the BBSHD takes the abuse generally in stride. Remember you will lose all but one front sprocket.

A jumbo pack 17Ah 35E battery pack is a good performer. BUT I'd look at a 48V 23Ah or more for the mileage you want.

You can use the eBikes.ca motor simulator to compare the two motors. I used 25A for a conservative simulation.
Wide-open throttle will get around 25 miles

imo no, also keep in mind with a battery you want a little extra, you dont want to totally deplete your battery unless you have to,charging a battery from zero% is harder on the cells so having a battery with a little extra charge left over at the end of the day is better than one that is nearly depleted by the time you get home.

Maybe get in touch with a user here by the name of lido3000. He delivers ubereats in toronto as well, but I think he rides a stromer, so the efficiency of hub vs mid-drive will be different. Might give you a ballpark idea though.

Just remember that you are adding a lot of battery weight and a little motor weight, plus your cargo. My guess is that you will change your mind about only using assist on the hills. Wide open throttle means using maximum PAS. It's adjustable if you didn't know.

your motor has a throttle with a BBSHD kit. Wide open means running purely by throttle. IF you use as little battery assistance as you wrote 17Ah COULD be enough.

When looking at batteries ALWAYS put the battery you chose in the cart and calculate all shipping charges. I always complete the cart right up to where I add my credit card. Pricing can be deceiving.

Alibaba is a coin toss unless you know the vendor. How does a China vendor cover their warranty? Typically they'll ask you to replace a bad BMS.

Luna wants $525 for a 52V 13.5Ah battery. I couldn't get the shipping charges since they are not in stock.I don't see how that's more expensive than EM3ev. I sell EM3ev batteries and EM3ev batteries are covered by a one year IN USA warranty. You get what you pay for!

i'll be stuck in traffic half the time so i don't think i would be using the throttle most the time and on top of that i have to ride really slowly in case i get doored from the crazy street traffic here in Toronto. i only really need it for the up hills and breathers.

Does your bike have hand brakes? It COULD be run as a one-speed but not a typical application.

yes hand brakes , might have to install it into another heavier bike if worse comes

I know the area and my opinion is you need much more battery because you don't want to baby it, you want to make money with it. 2 X 17Ah or 2 x 20 Ah is what I'd buy. And since you'd be buying them together, you could get a discount. All that is conditional on getting enough orders to keep you busy when you are giving it full assist or mostly throttle all the time...in order to make more money. Also will be great if, for example, you want to do some other bike trips - to suburbs or where you want to travel right across town.
I've found that when stuck in traffic it's best to be able to boot it and keep up with traffic between stoplights and helpful to stay away from getting doored. Stay put out there, not riding in and out from near the curb. Never do that. The potholes are horrible and deep right now as well. If it's just a few cars I let them go first so I'm not getting passed or having them get angry.
But this is not the way I was originally thinking before I bought. And I would buy a ready made ebike. But more battery either way.

Right now I don't have any recommendations for bikes because what I could recommend for a great deal, all sold out. For batteries I have a seller in mind, but I'm going to be taking my own chances when I buy my second battery from China. Other people here love the deal they got, so I'll be trying one for myself, sometime this year, I hope.
