Battery winter care

I know how to get my battery to 50% charge and I know enough to bring it indoors for the cold weather, which are quickly approaching where I live.

How do I care for the battery over the winter? What do I need to do for those months so I don't kill it. Just leave it alone for almost 6 months until I can ride outdoors?

Check the charge occasionally... every time you turn the calendar to a new month is probably overkill. If the battery still has, roughly, 40 to 75% charge you should be okay.

Hi Jaizon. I am waiting for 2 ebikes ordered from Rad Powerbikes to arrive. This is what they say about storing the battery:

For battery storage longer than two weeks, the battery should be kept at around 75% charged, powered off, and stored in a dry place between 50 °F and 77 °F (10 °C and 25 °C). The battery should be checked every month, and if necessary, charged to around 75% charged.

Store the battery correctly when experiencing extreme temperatures. Using the battery in extreme temperatures and conditions, as well as how the battery is charged and stored can also have an impact on the overall lifespan of the battery.

I recently recharged my battery up to 100% however now that the weather has turned quite chilly and windy I would like to store my bike away till the spring. I understand that the battery is best kept at between 75-50% charged. Instead of riding the bike what would you recommend to be the best way to take down the charge from 100% to 75% in anticipation of winter?

If you're not comfortable with that then a ride is your best way to drain that battery. It looks like DC should have some dry 60+ degree days Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!

Wait for a warmer day. Put on a coat and gloves etc. and go for a ride.
