Phew, all working now. Must have just needed some juice to get it working again!

Usually no reset that isn't automatic once at rest for a bit. But there are many types of batteries. Maybe post a photo.
Does it have a switch?

Do you have a voltage meter?
See if you have a reading on the battery wires. See if you have a reading on the charger output.
I know that you wanted to test it out to know what you are working with... But pushing a low quality battery to its limits is a gamble
