Any recommendations for replacement fat tire?

All,
After nearly 2k miles, it's time to replace my rear (and soon my front) tires. The bike originally came with 4" knobby fat tires. I mainly use this bike for commuting on streets... Sometimes my rides can be very wet. And at least for now, I've sworn off riding when there is ice/snow. Any recommendations for suitable replacement tires?

PS. I had a guy at the LBS tell me I should ride on these tires until I hit steel, his argument being the bald tires make more contact with the road... That might be true, but I can't believe bald is better when roads are other than clean and dry...

When the bumps on my tires are greater than 1/8" I don't get flats. Hit the minimum last week, picked up a piece of steel belted tire, new tube time out on the road. New tire time this afternoon. I use Kenda, haven't had one of those split the casing yet.
