Another new TQ motor: hpr40

Another hpr40 bike just showed up: Scott Fastlane. I see three models, the top one weighs 9.9kg. The specs show max assist speed “28mph US” so they are, or will soon be available in the U.S.
Well spotted Cal. So Scott get in first In the US! Prices are pretty high compared to Canyon but not unexpected with tariffs on the TQ bits at least, and not Direct-to-Consumer. And the enviable 28mph cut-off! Bah.
Not sure the price will necessarily put everyone off…this is a niche bike, and the best money can buy…people will always buy ‘the best’.
 
I don't know. The frame may not be top level carbon, but a major manufacturer Dura-Ace Di2 equipped bike with Zipp 353 NSW wheels for $12K is analog bike pricing, and you get a motor.
 
12k EUR is the price in the EU.

Scott are looking a bit shaky. Earlier this year there was a major bust up between the old (US) owner and new (Korean) owner at HQ in Switzerland that resulted in the police being called! After International arbitration the former US owner Beatt Zaugg was forced to sell his remaining 41% and the company is now fully owned by the South Korean businessman Young One, rumours he plans to combine Scott with a Korean clothing label he also owns, so the bike future is uncertain.
 
Yako has a new review of the Scott with the hpr40. He gives a thorough description but hasn’t been able to ride one yet. One thing I noted is that the three fastlane models use the same frame and fork but the top two have an integrated cockpit while the lower level uses a stem and bars. That’s good news for those of us who might want an angled stem and/or riser bars like the redshift or specialized hover bars for aging necks.

Another Yako review/ride this time of a Trek road bike with the TQ60. Interesting comparing to the TQ40 on the Canyon, plus as ever, a fun ghoulish Tale from The Trail. The man is on fire!

Canyon Endurace, Grizl and now this Trek. As winter gets darker and wetter here, seeing the maze of Catalonia trails in bright autumn sunshine makes me so jealous.

Boy, the TQ is very stealthy. Lovely colors too, although I think I’d want to show off that carbon fibre without paint like the first pic.
 
a lifetime warranty
I wonder what the brand does when no frame is available for replacement. My own case was positive (I was just lucky). As the frame of my Vado 5.0 cracked 3 years into the ownership, the good people of Specialized Warsaw filed a successful lifetime frame warranty claim. However, it was the fifth year of that Vado model existence (the model was long discontinued), and the guys only could only find a replacement frame in size S (instead of M). Making the new Vado 6.0 required a lot of effort to make the geometry bearable, and I admit I even got several new parts free.

Now, a man crashes a Ridley after 7 years. How would the "lifetime frame warranty" be done?
 
It looks like an unsanctioned Gran Fondo.
It was not the first Giro E. In the early Rules, true 250 W mechanical was the motor power limit. Now, the rules have been relented (I have no patience to rediscover them). However, the TQ 40 is one of a few e-bike mid-drive motors with the peak power of 250 W, so the Ridley easily qualifies there.
