An ebike better than a mobility vehicle?

I'm so tired of the elitist bullshirt. Some will say it's not an e-bike cuz you have a throttle. They have the high ground because they pedal scores of miles with torque sensing. but are we losers because we can't pedal 100% of the time? Isn't an eBike battery-powered and throttle a better choice than a cage spewing petrol fumes?

Of course an ebike can have a fork’n throttle. I agree, that’s bullshirt.

I think that we need more information. Is this about restrictions or just in general?

On a roadway, they are both good choices. On MUP where motorized vehicles are not allowed, neither are good choices.
According to federal regulations a "low speed electric bicycle" is not a motorized vehicle (i.e. think of it as not even having a motor by definition). So long as riders travel at rational safe speeds on a MUP why would an ebike / LSEB be a problem?

Why does it matter.
Well no matter but many of us here are critical of riders when they are seen never pedaling. I realized i was also guilty. My disdain for the “mini bike” style and 20” fatties, I finally decided, was bulls pizzle. Rethinking that atitude perhaps only high speeds should be the only bitch to pitch. I’m one thst has really slowed down but a proper class 3 with adequate brakes and < or = 28MPH oughta be fine too. Here stink pot mopeds are pretty common and it seems to me eBikes are cleaner and quieter maybe even less dangerous in a mash up.

Federal regulation gives guidance on what is allowed/disallowed. Doesn't make it good guidance.

The "does a throttled ebike belong on a "no motorized vehicle" MUP" has been discussed ad nausium. Suffice it to say I am in the "no" camp. My perception is those (albiet very few) that are riding using throttle only are not using the same level of attention as peddlers.

Are you wondering "just cuz", or were you stopped for some reason? I don't think I'd want to be the LEO that stopped somebody on an e-bike that had demonstrable mobility issues. Not unless he was being a jack ass (then he deserves anything that happens to him).

I've adopted the "sky is not falling" line of thought, and stopped worrying about what others think of me or my bikes. Will deal with the ramifications/fallout when/if I need to. -Al

Yup. Not worrying. But i have been chided. I’m finding i am becoming less tolerant of the “purists”. Like STFU and mind yer own. And yes, I think most LEO’s here would definitely give a pass to less than able riders.

I used ti think the high power frllas would bring the house of cards down but now am adopting a live and let live. And seeing that eBikes have blurred definitions. Again, I’d rather see throttle eBikes than stink pots.

Don’t like me on the MUP?

When I sold my Rad Runner 1 last spring the lady who purchased it did so mainly because it has a throttle. Both of her knees are bad and she flat out said she's going to ride it like a moped. She has since put around 500 miles on it using it for local errands. The pedals have never been turned in that time. Its just one less car on the road as far as I'm concerned.
