Allant+ 7S & Other Treks with Integrated Batteries

Has anyone come across, does anything exist, is there a hack or any ideas to have a simple cover for the "hole" that is left when removing the battery from the frame?

I typically park my bike inside my condo so I charge the battery in the frame. When I ride it to work, I need to lock it outside the building & if I want to charge the battery I would have to remove it from the bike. Then I'm left with a huge hole that will get dirt & junk in it most likely.

Not to say that I want to carry around a cover however that option may actually be nice.

What are your thoughts & suggestions?

I though about using some sheet foam to cover it with Velcro straps. I guess one could buy the unpainted plastic cover from Trek but I wouldn’t know how to attach it.

The battery contact cover is for the battery itself, not the bike. I think?
It’s actually a bigger issue. Bosch and Trek suggest removing the battery whenever you are transporting the bike on a bike rack. Finding a cover for that hole is a real problem in that case because weather, dust, who knows what can get in there when you’re transporting the bike at freeway speeds. Neither Trek or Bosch have a solution and they should have come up with something. Foam or some kind of nylon cover make the most sense but it needs to be something that won’t flap around damaging the paint at interstate highway speeds!

Good Call on that part, just looked up downtube battery cover and the Fahrer cover comes up. I think a few people have used the Fahrer cover as well in the forum. I think this would be good for transportation maybe? but it might slide up and down or even off at higher speeds? but as for leaving a bike locked up i am sure someone will see it and maybe want to take it?

Right idea but way too short for my Allant. Trek could make a good profit on a correctly designed and executed (and branded!) piece! A nice neoprene piece could even be used to keep your battery warmer in cold conditions.

doh Ive got the Allant 8S, didnt think about the sizing of that downtube cover. Definitely agree with you that they could capitalize on a opportunity. Ive looked up a few options and only thing i can think of is the Styrofoam and cut it to fit the gap or even go to a fabric store to see if they sell some kind of neoprene and it made that way.

I called Trek an hour or so ago and was a bit shocked at how completely unaware the person I talked with seemed about this. They clearly never pondered the unintended potential consequences involved. Hopefully they built the bikes to properly drain & clean that area. I’m not going to be the one to test it.

Thank you for making that call! I am kind of surprised that nobody in their company has asked this question. It amazes me how many companies are so concerned about design/looks & not about actual user interaction & functionality.
I don't think it would be that difficult to make a logo'd, sealed, locking cover. If priced well, I bet they could sell enough of them. Maybe because it's not universal?

Looks like the plastic stretch wrap is the workaround.

thank you for checking in on that. I guess the Styrofoam would sorta rub off and get into the cracks of the bike. I don't travel with the bike on the rack to often maybe just 1-2 times a month when the weather conditions permit. I think for now maybe i will settle for the contact pin cover to make sure nothing hits that area and moves the pins while i am driving or taking the battery off to charge.

Thanks! I cut a couple of pieces off an old inner tube I had laying around and zip-tied those pieces wrapped around the seat stays to protect the frame from the lock. I attach the u-lock by running it through a loop of thin bungee cord attached to the seat tube (near the water bottle braze-ons) and that keeps the tension tight so it doesn't bob around or move. It's really solid and the lock is easy to take off for use and easy to Stowe for riding.

I also used the same old inner tube to manufacture my DIY custom mudflaps that you see hanging from the front fender. These are super useful here in Seattle where the roads are wet for ~9 months of the year. They extend the fenders lower and help keep water and grime off the drive and off your toes. I love fenders and I love fenders with mudflaps even more!

+1 for the Fahrer cover - I've got one for my Allant+ 8 and the wife has one on her TM4+ lowstep. Fits both perfectly. Only drawback is removing the bottle cage first (if you have one installed there)

It is for the bike. The contact pins are on the bike, not on the battery. I have several and use on my dual battery bikes.

It fits unless you have a water bottle mounted on the downtube (or dual battery setup).

Not to get off-topic but what suspension fork did you add to your 8s?

This is the 7s (in matte Quicksilver color), which comes stock with the Suntour Mobie 25 fork. That fork should also fit the 8s since it is the same frame as the 7s. Suntour makes a spring coil version and an air version of the Mobie 25. If I had the choice I would choose the air model.

If the display, lights and derailleur can be upgraded, Allant+ 7s would be a fantastic bike!
