Hi, I've been creeping around this forum for a while now, finally joined.

Been interested in ebikes but was not ready to pull the trigger on that kinda $$$. A few months back I discovered the DIY versions (ie bafang) and this was right up my alley. Im a natural tinkerer, so I think I may have found a new hobby that's going to end up costing me more than a true ebike.

Ordered a 48v 500w mid-drive from em3ev and watching that tracking number make it's through china on it's way here.

It's been a few years now, but I've had good experiences ordering from em3ev.

If you enjoy fixing things and electronics, then you've got two hobbies in one! Have fun.

I'd visit Hakko if I were nearby - fantastic soldering gear.

I had good luck with em3ev too on a couple MAC hub motor setups and I think I have at least 4 batteries from them too - also not recent, but they were really good at the time and I still run those kits. They were my first and only high power/off road setups. I have 3 5 bafang mid drives and I've been pretty pleased with all of them. I took mine apart and did some of that red locktite on the bearing races/regreased the things with that mobile 28 aircraft grease or whatever it is called, and they've all treated me well so far too! I hope you'll be pleased with them, I think you will! :)

edit: you know it's bad when you forget how many ebikes of a certain type you have...

So far they have been great. They got back to me very quickly to all my questions. When it came time to ship my order, it turned out there was a remote area charge from the handler; em3ev covered this cost.

Most people here are skeptical because they are made in China, and because like you said there are large Japanese makers producing ebikes. I'm not sure about the cadence sensor legality, or how it would be known when you import yourself. My cousin is JNP, who had told me only to really be concerned with the motor that can speed up higher than 24km/hr under its own speed. I would not have a throttle so am not worried about that, but also I live in a very remote location in the Tohoku area, not a big city where I would have to worry about police inspection of the motor.
