Hi, folding ebike, I need a new gear inner cable, do I take the folding element into consideration when buying,
Thanks

I have a couple folding bikes and haven't needed to do anything special when having brake/shifter cables replaced. The bike shop just used standard cables and techniques. Might depend on your bike but I think they'd avoid requiring special parts

I have had to go to longer than standard cables on both the rear brakes and derailleur. It depends on
the cable routing of your bike, it seems. If you buy the cables from a local bike shop they will probably
exchange the cable for a different one if it does not work. Best to ask, when you buy it.

The reason I asked is when I fold the bike i notice the brakes activate slightly due to cable being shortened. What confuses me is if gear cable is longer than standard, why when in normal position do the work without re-adjusting, apologies if my explanation is vague.

The length of the cable only matters when you put it on in the unfolded (normal riding) position. And as long as, when unfolded, the brakes are ok then not to worry.

Hi, yes brakes and gears work fine in normal position, I suppose I’m dafter than I thought, still can’t grasp how the cables obviously shorten on folding how the gears still work ok.
I know just accept they do, thanks for replies brilliant forum.

Something to do with the shortest distance between two points is a straight line and the cable being longer than the housing my guess

It's because when the bike is folded, it stretches the cable a little bit out of its end stops. Probably need another inch.

My folders are conversions. The first time I folded my bike, I found I had made the electrical cables too short. It pulled the throttle connector off.
