A question about connecting cables

I ask you the courtesy if you can help me. I have a BMC AMP Sport TWO with E6100 engine and SC-E7000 cycle computer. I wanted to install the left control to check the engine assistance. I have read that with the left command it is possible to go up or down a level while now the control directly on the computer cycle does not allow it. that is, if I have to pass from a NORMAL assistance level to ECO I have to do the whole scale of the type, starting from NORMAL, BOOST OFF ECO. if I have the left control I can instead go back and forth through the different levels of assistance. Can you confirm this for me? If it is true what I write can someone help me in understanding which cables I have to use and which left control I have to buy? I hope I was clear. Thank you in advance. Hi

PS I looked in the Shimano Steps manuals but I confess that I find it a little complicated.

I did a bit of research, and I would bet that the right part is Shimano EW-SD50. I am not 100% sure, but Shimano lists the EW-SD50 as compatible with the 6000, 7000, and 8000 series, so it seems that all of their systems may use the same cable here.

I have a slightly different shifter from the one on your bike. It has similar two big buttons and also a third smaller button that toggles the function on the display (max speed, cadence, time, etc.). I can confirm that with the big buttons you can toggle up and down the assist level, much like a front derailleur.

Thank you very much you have been kind and thorough. Greetings from Italy

You mention that on the left control you have a third button that allows scrolling thru the screen. I just bought a 2021 AMP City One that only has the two buttons. To scroll thru the display I have to push the itty-bitty tiny button on the display unit, and it always defaults back to speed. No way to hold the distance setting which would be useful if trying to follow a cue sheet.

Is my display unit defective because it won't stay on one read-out but defaults back to speed? My experience with Shimano's STEPS manual is same as OP's. Confusing.

@dougpnirv sorry for the delay. I have the SC-E8000 controller. I always toggle it to display RPMs at the beginning of my ride, and it stays on RPMs for the entire ride. I'm not sure if the other controllers operate the same way or if they revert to speed. I wouldn't make much sense to switch back.
