A big "Hello" from Sydney, Australia

Hi all,

Thanks for letting me join your forum. I have used the EBR YouTube channel and the information gained from this site to build my own e-bike. After all the great tips I picked up from here I knew that an ebike was the best solution for my needs!

I own a 2019 Trek Marlin 7 29er but I found that my 61 year old knees were really starting to feel the pain of the hills after some long rides. Too many sporting injuries I guess!!
All my research based on how I ride and where I ride led me to a 500 watt rear hub conversion which I just installed on the bike. I still want the exercise but just not the pain...;)

I have tried to make the install as "factory" as possible. It did take me a good few hours to get the cabling and positioning of the kit in the right positions. But so far so good.
I do look forward to really giving it a good test on one of my 25km road/trail rides in my local area.

All I need now is a good seat, maybe a suspension seat post and some decent road tyres that are the right width!!

Looking forward to sharing my learnings and adventures with all of you!!

Welcome to the site. I too am a converter. I also have a geared hub motor. Neat work; I used red wire loom which is not nearly as invisible.
You might want a stronger clamp than a SS hose clamp for the torque arm. I cut 1" strip out of junk box fans, drill some holes, brush off the burrs, wrap the band around the strut with 5 mm or #10 machine screws to tighten them up. Use elastic stop nuts so they don't fall off. Stainless screws doesn't rust up.
I find a second nut on the power axle prevents loosening. You have to take the hall effect connector off the motor, doable on some versions and not others. My nuts were 14 mm x 1.75 , not available as a purchased part, so I bought a tap and made some.

Looks like a nicely done conversion, and a great base bike to convert.

Welcome, and many happy miles with your new 'bionic legs'. ;)
