8 batteries down to 2

I have a 96v 20ah Phantom F1 that has 8 12v 20ah wired in series. My question is, can I just buy two 48v 20ah batteries, wire them in series & connect them up? Would I need different gauge wires anywhere? Oh and the 48v batteries are the exact same size as the 12v ones. Going from the 8 batteries down to just the 2 saves me about 10lbs just in battery weight. Nonetheless I would definitely like to hear any inputs, god or bad it doesnt matter, I just would like the truth. Thank you..
