...Lots of regular bike dealers continue to struggle, immensely, aren't positioned to re-invest in ebikes, or retrain, and the ones that take them on, are only marginally attached to the concept...
When I was shopping for my first e-bike in 2016 I just found the small, regular bike shops staffed by hardcore cyclists, to be rather unfriendly places. I found they had little interest in dealing with me or with e-bikes. I think one small shop that was a dealer for Scott or Felt (can't recall which) would only build an e-bike for me and said "it will do 45mph". So they were representing a brand that does make some e-bikes but they had no interest in helping me figure out how to get one. I know for sure that one of the shops I visited during that time has closed. I'm fortunate I've found a larger LBS that seems to get it. They are all-in on e-bikes and are sending their staff for training, expanding their offerings and have tried hard to get my business. I see some of the shops as orchestrating or at least accelerating their own demise.
