Just a small ramble benefiting ebikes :

Refilling the 750wh lithium/ion pack we go from a battery weight of 12.8lbs to the same 12.8lbs, refilling the tank for a large car , usually it's 16 gallons (small car -12g) of gas adds about 96lbs.(1 gallon of gas=6lbs/1gallon water=8lbs) As battery cells rapidly advance we may soon bend some physics laws...

btw- in some parts in Eu, 1 Gallon of gas is 5-8$ . A full 16gallon tank it would cost 80-128$ !! , 1kwh about same price as here, between 0.08-0.18$ or free if u hv solar panels/wind turbine @home.

And i used a price of 3$ for Us, although in some states is 2.xx or even 1.xx $, but yea it still weights the same 96lbs...

I am not all the optimistic about battery advancements. In all actuality, batteries have advanced very slowly over the last hundred years. In that time, battery power density has not even quite increased by four fold. Battery hype on the other hand, rapidly advances and has over the last hundred years. Failures to real honest to goodness successes run about 1 million to 1. There is no other technology on the planet, with the exception of fusion, with hype to failure rate to match that of batteries.
The energy density of gasoline is orders of magnitude higher per Kg than batteries.

My ebike is my affordable entry into battery tech. It does great for what it is and I really enjoy using it for its intended use. But if someone ask me what I'd recommend for a commuter, its usually a motor scooter. No range anxiety, gas stations everywhere, 75-120mpg's and usually proven technology. Oh, and buy in price. I can find a nice used brand name 50cc for around $750-1500.

Yes re. the "hype" about batteries. IF we ever get the fast-charging/lightweight breakthrough, transportation will truly be changed. We can hope.

It's true if ETransportation saves you a ton on auto to auto, it will save you even more on a Ebike and you get some fresh air and exercise as a bonus
