My `old' 2016 Path Plus had about 3000 miles on it when it developed a squealing noise coming from the motor area. The local bike shop determined it was a loose screw that held on the chain guard. Before that determination was made I bought a duplicate bike and put the old bike into storage.
My new 2017 Path Plus has about 900 miles on it and it has developed a periodic squealing noise in the motor which goes away if the motor is turned off and pedaling is continued. It is in the shop now for investigation. Because of the previous diagnosis I removed the chain guard and the noise continued.
Now I am suspicious that the old bike had the same problem which was suppressed by the `loose screw' problem. I have taken the old bike out of storage and will ride it as long as the weather holds and/or the noise comes back.
