    trials and tribulations

trigger warning, this is a personal post and while ebikes are central, it's not really about ebikes. i was always a pretty athletic person; i swam competitively as a child and young adult, ran track, and did long distance running in my early 30s for fun. while i rode bikes for convenience i...

in case anyone was waiting for e-bike sensor integration on k2 hammerhead …

https://support.hammerhead.io/hc/en-us/articles/12869408525851?fbclid=IwAR3Vk531zTaoWr-pqx-N6Bi_lZmuw9oafwaJoe_wV6dMaK51ZRWfS-M-nXM looks pretty robust. it was developed with input from an avid creo rider. however i understand that it does *not* separately show RE and main battery levels.

    new CA bike laws

love the new passing law, although i can see some blowback from it. i have never heard of a local jurisdiction requiring bike registration, but i guess i’m glad that there’s now a state law presenting some a-hole towns from doing so 😂

    thank you creo!

who knew the creo would be such a gateway drug to cycling! today i hit 10,000 miles since i took up cycling more seriously in the early days of 2021. 6,000 of those miles on a creo, 500 on a commuter/errand/kid hauling hub drive that i initially also rode for fun, and 3500 on a regular no motor...

    (assisted) GPS is really amazing

spent some time zooming around my strava heat map just now, and it's really impressive how accurate mobile positioning is these days. these are from around 10k miles of riding, and in several cases these are probably hundreds of tracks in the same place... you can see u-turns, taking one side of...

interesting brake rotor driven conversion kit

https://apple.news/AnN_TqcH5QpCX9Ixg_9RwzA this actually seems like a pretty ingenious solution - and at only 6.6lb the average person could easily toss it into their bag before and after use. motor driven replacement rotor:

    be careful out there!

https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/china-camp-e-bicycle-fatal-crash-san-rafael-sherman-wayne-chen/ we'll probably never know the full story behind what happened to this poor gentleman, but there's no denying that e-bikes allow people to ride places they would not otherwise be able to...

sorta off topic, first time doing drop bar tape on my specialized bikes!

changed out my slightly frayed bar tape (from a minor fall). took two tries on each side to get it sort of the way i wanted it, which was mostly about not having to use electrical or finishing tape at the top part. it's got a bit of a bulge up there, which actually feels pretty good when on the...

please don’t behave like this guy.

this guy literally just rolled up on the sidewalk and parked his huge bike/trailer partially in a parklet and blocking 3/4 of the sidewalk. and we wonder why so many people dislike or distrust cyclists!

how do you feel about the current regulatory system for e-Bikes in the US?

This subject comes up a lot, and a few of us have pretty frequently stated (and re-stated hahah) views. Let’s see what a broader set of opinions are. Speaking of the US, i would describe the current system as this: there are federal and state definitions of what an e-Bike is, with the state...

    my e-bike story (long!)

i have been inspired reading some of the other stories of how much e-bikes have contributed to people's lives - car replacement, overcoming health challenges, the pleasure of being outdoors and getting exercise, etc. so here's my story: i'm in my mid 40s. born in texas to new yorkers who were...

    home-made quad lock adapter

i am a serious minimalist when it comes to bike and e-bike cockpits. both of my road bikes (creo, aethos) have the same one piece handlebar/stem, which has tapering tube diameters that make a traditional clamp attachment for a phone or bike computer ugly at best. of course they sell an...

    off topic, mostly

i picked up my first just-a-bike in 25+ years today. keeping it in the specialized “unfinished” carbon family…. my creo SL, with 6,000 miles in almost a year, is still very much loved and staying in the stable… but she MIGHT wear the gravel tires full time now, and maybe even get some fenders!!

another alternative to mission control and bike computers, tested...

please, no debate here on phones vs. bike computers, which seems to be right up there with "tubeless vs tubed," "steel vs carbon," and all the other hot-button religious fervor debates in the cycling world! this thread is not about the pros and cons of one or the other, rather a different way to...

mission control, strava, power, etc. [warning: data!]

since a recent thread which discussed the mission control app's interpretation of "time" as different from strava or other apps, i took a look at the data for todays ride a few different ways. in the past i've compared ride data captured with mission control, rideWithGPS, and cyclemeter and...

convince me this bike doesn't exist!

i have an electric road bike (specialized turbo creo) which i love dearly. adding a non-electric road bike to the stable as well. ... but my primary commuter is a vanmoof S3. there are many things about it which i LOVE - it's a brilliant design in several ways - but it has not been terribly...

creo with two wheelsets: gravel mode activated!

my creo was a comp carbon model, to which i recently swapped in a different rear cassette, driver, wheels, and tires to go with a few other upgrades over time. the roval terra clx wheels are great, very light, and with gp5000 tubeless the bike definitely rides faster and smoother... but no way...

    6 months of creo!

on the left, my creo, 6 months and a day ago, when i bought it, on the right, this morning's ride. 57.1 miles, motor off the whole way. love this bike and especially love that with the motor off it's just a somewhat-unusually-heavy road bike. i'm somewhat obsessive about stats, so for the 6...
