I agree, contact Specialized directly also and see what they have to say about this. This is after all an expensive bike and I would expect them to have a more accommodating response. Good luck.

Have you tried asking the store you bought the bike from whether this is something that would be covered under warranty? I believe there is a one year warranty on parts and Specialized might ship a replacement saddle to them.

My local dealer received the replacement display from Specialized within 5 days and installed it for me. The display is a small separate piece that comes off from the brake/gear lever assembly and is connected by a wire. Display back light working again as expected.

This happened a week after I bought the bike and I never thought much about it until recently. I'll ask my dealer if he knows why this is happening but I thought perhaps I had turned something off that had disabled the joystick light control.

For some reason I am unable to turn on/off the lights using the joystick. I have to press the button on the front light to do that. Have I un-knowingly turned off that option, or have others experienced the same thing?

I agree that sounds like a good suggestion: a key slot at the top next to the power switch that disables the bike. The same key could be used for both key slots, to either enable/disable the power switch or remove the battery.

I believe I missed out reading about your accident. Sad to hear about rib injury and the totaled bike but glad to hear you are well otherwise. I never thought about insurance for the bike, perhaps something we should all consider seriously? Get well soon.
