Do you use more than one battery on your rides?

Captain, if I may... I'm 100% self taught. My day job is computer work so my only experience with tools was building computer towers and screwing monitor mounts on basically. Converting a bike of your choice using Grin supplied parts is actually quite easy. The hardest parts are: -Choosing...

Do you use more than one battery on your rides?

Thank you Captain, hearing these words from you are inspiration. Your 2 Wh/km has never left my thoughts when I'm out riding. My beast above uses 18-22Wh/Km which is why I have a 300-350km range with it.... What I have done, I realized after...is built a combination of an electric scooter and...

Do you use more than one battery on your rides?

Great seeing this thread having new posts. I smiled remembering how little Wh per km the author Captain Slow requires (proud of your Captain) compared to the setup I enjoy riding. Soon as our weather here in Ontario gets above 20C (riding my trail bikes for now to get back on the saddle during...

    Is 72V Safe?

Great idea. Because the basket is attached to the frame and therefore doesn't 'steer' with the handle bars, it's a solid place to install the battery in my opinion. A hardshell battery ideally (versus a shrink wrap type battery that offers less protection to the cells) and a bit of padding to...

Can a mid drive ebike pull a trailer / cargo as well as a rear hub?

Very good, great choice by the way. Then the only suggestion I have is look up what the 'payload' your Biktrix Ultra Eagle has for rider (and cargo) to perhaps give you some more insight into what you are working with. While the trailer is technically out back it's still part of the overall...

Can a mid drive ebike pull a trailer / cargo as well as a rear hub?

Did you upgrade/replace the chain when you installed the mid drive? I have only built/ridden hub drives thus far but looking into mid drives with my LBS. One item he mentioned is stronger chains designed for ebikes to be part of my build when I do. Sorry I don't have specific brand/models of...

    Is 72V Safe?

Here there hulk, hopefully I can help you a bit. I have a Surly Big Dummy Cargo bike that I have converted to electric. I went with 2WD, 52V using 9C 1500 watt motors. I also did some silly...installing 6 x 23.8Ah 52V batteries (hence the cargo bike choice in the first place for this build, to...

Long Range e bike riding, what I have learned

@K PierreR - Well done!!! Do you get the feeling now that going for a ride of anything less than 75 miles is a 'shortie' ride and you always want to try and make your schedule work to be near or over the 75 mile target? :):) I have other ebikes designed for trail riding and if I don't have...

Long Range e bike riding, what I have learned

K PierreR, you just might be my ebike soul brother.:cool::cool: In 2019 I built up a new Giant Toughroad SLR 2 with a Bionx D500 motor. I added a rear rack with panniers and attempted at one point to carry 6 +1 of the 11.6AH batteries (Yes I own 7 Bionx batteries from 2019, lol) but it...

Knew I shouldn't, but I ordered a new bike on Friday

Captain, my dear friend. Once again your post are inspiring us all. I always look forward to seeing your name when I return here to EBR. I have been away for a while myself...it was difficult to come here when I had my first adult health scare last fall...gout or pseudo gout in both knees...

    The Hundred Dollar Ebike Battery

For my newest builds I have chosen to go with EM3ev Batteries: https://em3ev.com/ High Quality Cells, protection/BMS and a key factor - every cell in the battery is fused - this really sold me on their design at their price point. My research for capacity per dollar lead me to choosing their...

Has anyone had a hub motor fail?

Happy to help Scott, On my new builds (2 so far) I have gone with products from www.ebikes.ca (Grin Technologies). The motors are 9C 212 series Hub Motors...in both builds I happen to decide to go with 2WD. Road bike for the summer, Fat bike for dirt/winter. All motors are connected to...

Has anyone had a hub motor fail?

I'm guessing if you sold a mountain bike with a 500 watt motor to a 300lb 'built like an O-Lineman' you might warn him not to try and climb a 20% grade hill? ;-) I didn't get that warning...realize my mistake and that while hub motors are nearly bullet proof, even they have limits. 8-)

    Custom eBike

Gorgeous Bike. Yes the integrated battery is beautiful...but when it's covered in mud or snow it looks not much different than a down tube setup. ;-) FS with 5" tires is a tough sell...3.8" and up tires mostly replace the need for FS except for the advantage of the suspension keeping the...

    Custom eBike

I had a bell installed on my Pugsley when I first started riding it....and never used it once. It seized up from lack of use and outdoor elements (winter) so I just removed it and if ever someone doesn't hear my nates coming up behind them I still have my lungs to use in a pinch. :)

Has anyone had a hub motor fail?

This could work for sure. What controller do you have on the bike?

Has anyone had a hub motor fail?

You are very much correct, lol. The older P series (I have 2 of them) are much easier to open. The motor I had fail is the larger 'medium pizza size' D500 series motor which is basically 'sealed' or glued together. If I was keeping with Bionx equipment in my fleet I would make the effort to...

Do you use more than one battery on your rides?

35-42kmph is my cruising speed on my silly big bike with 6 batteries...but I could be the exception to the rule. Longest ride so far this year was 190kms (118 miles) and I still had 2800wh of capacity left. My goal is to come as close as I can to 250kms (155miles) in a single ride before this...

Do you use more than one battery on your rides?

Burley trailers are awesome. I have a Burley COHO XC in line trailer. Here's what I can share about it and why I love it: -Use of 'Burley Ballz' (confirm your bike is compatible with this setup before considering this type of trailer, all of my bikes with rear hub motors are 10mm nuts that...

Do you use more than one battery on your rides?

2 wh/km?? Wow Captain thoroughly impressed!! My best ride this year on my most efficient setup was a flat (rail trail) ride with a non-e riding friend. We did 101kms, average speed close to yours of 20-22kmph. I'm 270lbs of rider on top as a worthy side note. As it was Bionx equipment my...
