60mi Round Trip Commute - Advice?

Wow, this looks like an amazing bike, especially for the money. I have a question though: are Bafang motors considered to be reliable? How do they compare to Bosch motors in terms of quality and features like torque sensing?

    Shock Pump

It might have been simpler to spin on a Presta -> Schrader adapter

    Shock Pump

FWIW, I think you confused the valves-- the skinnier one that you see on road bikes are Presta, and the more robust ones you see on wider tires (and cars) are Schrader. Easy to mix up the two!

    Cold weather battery best practices

Being new to the world of Ebikes, I had some questions about the best way to manage batteries in cold weather, now that nights in Maine are getting down in the low 40s. I did a search on the topic, but couldn't find definitive answers to a few questions I was wondering about: 1. At what...

    Trek VS Specialized

I have read numerous posts in other threads on this forum that state that Trek’s customer service is awesome, while Specialzed at best gets mediocre reviews. I’m also planning to get an Allant+8 fr my wife next spring... it looks like the perfect sporty ebike!

    Need suggestions for fast ebike

I’ll check in here too. Read up on the Bulls Grinder EVO, a Speed pedalec with the Bosch motor, drop bars, 40c tires and a front suspension. I love mine, and you get a surprising amount of assist in Tour mode (the #2 level out of 4).

    Chargers

Apologies- I might have been unduly critical of the quality of inexpensive Chinese electrical components. But I’m pretty sure I’ve read a number of posts about battery pack fires, which blamed cheap batteries (and maybe cheap chargers or BMS boards) and poor quality control. Am I too skeptical?

60mi Round Trip Commute - Advice?

If I were undertaking a commute of this length and were new to cycling (ie, preferred a flat handlebar to a dropbar), I would check out Trek’s new ebike, the Allant+8S. Due to be released in November, it features Bosch’s new Generation 4 Speed motor, which is smaller, lighter and more powerful...

    Motor Drag on Specialized Vado?

    Roger that!

    Motor Drag on Specialized Vado?

Well, if we’re gonna split hairs about 1/2 a mph, we should also acknowledge that all these motors start tapering off their power assist at least a full mph less than their class level allows. But my bigger question is, why are you raising the 12.5 mph number... where did that come from? Of...

    Motor Drag on Specialized Vado?

Not sure what you mean, Jim6b. 25 kph = 15 mph, right? ...or were you referring to something else?

    Motor Drag on Specialized Vado?

Thomo, let me assure you that you’re not crazy. As you probably know, here in the US, there is a 20 mph power assist limit on most ebikes, which are so-called Class 1. I took a ride on my friend’s Cannondale Synapse Neo before I bought my ebike. It was a beautiful bike, but unfortunately too...

I hear that cheap Chinese chargers work great... until they ignite in flames when you’re not looking.

    Recommendation please

Another option to check out is Trek’s new Class 3 ebike, the Allant. It comes in several versions, with the aluminum version with the new Bosch Gen 4 Performance Speed motor costing about $4,300. The new motor is smaller and about 25% more powerful, but the big bonus is the new Powertube...

Show us pictures of where you ride your ebikes!

Because Maine is so under-represented here, I feel I need to post this photo, taken on top of a hill in New Gloucester a few days ago.

Sizing + Urban Rush and Wabash

That’s great mileage, I have to say. At best, I get maybe 55 miles on a full tank riding in Eco only, over moderately hilly terrain (today I rode 32 miles with about 2,200 vertical ft). But, to be honest, I flip on Tour for maybe 25% of the time, so realistically my range is about 40 miles...

Congrats on your new ride! I hear that once the bike lanes open on the new Tappan Zee bridge you’ll be able to do a 35 mile loop up the Palisades, across the TZ, down through Irvington and Hastings-on-Hudson, and back across the GW bridge... I think some biking group is designing a specified...

Exactly! Somebody should do a study on this topic!
