    Different Bar for Hybrid

I find carbon bars more comfortable than aluminum, they seem to mute road chatter and vibrations better. I've bought some cheap chinese ones on ebay that have held up just fine. FWIW

    "With Assist" vs. "E-bike"

The "model" legislation is being pushed by Peopleforbikes, a non profit that is funded by the industry. The net effect of that legislation is that the people who sell ebikes and those who ride them mistakenly believe they are free to go anywhere in the country unless they are specifically told...

    This is the bike...

No kidding. They're all using the same cheap chinese enduro frame, cheap forks and rear shock.

    Am I a hypocrite?

The federal CPSA that defines what can be sold as an ebike in the US doesn't mention how you switch on the motor, just 750w and 20mph. I don't buy into the argument that PAS makes a motorized bike more like a bike somehow. Soft pedaling with a 300% assist is better in some way than pedalling...

    Am I a hypocrite?

I saw a guy the other day on the street, late 60's, two big hub motors front and rear, ape hanger bars, tear off from a light outdistancing the cars and get up to 35 in a heartbeat and start passing traffic without ever turning a crank. My thoughts were that exactly, enjoy it while it lasts...

Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

As noted, there isn't any way for a LEO to know what they are looking at, even if you are in CA which requires the manufacturer to sticker the bike. The only and still admittedly ineffective way to regulate ebikes is to allow them, one and all, or not allow any. And even at that, most people...

    The Eagle 10kw complete ebike

Just a heads up, in your video, you state that in the 750w setting its by federal definition a bicycle and can go anywhere a bicycle can go, which is not accurate. The federal CPSA defines what you can sell as an ebike, it doesn't say where you can ride them at all, that's left up to your state...

Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

CO state law only applies to state DOT roadways and bike paths, otherwise, it's up to the local folks to decide. The state parks are a no go at this point, as well as all USFS and BLM land. A lot depends on if they consider an ebike a motorized vehicle which would prohibit it from signed "no...

Got hit by a car last night

I could never figure out why so many drivers would look right at me, and then pull out like they never saw me. When I commute, I'm usually in neon with lights on at night. Then I read this, and began to understand. (Link Removed - No Longer Exists) Flashing blinkies during the day are a good...

Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

Just a FYI, but other than motorized trails of which there are plenty, I couldn't find any ebike legal singletrack to ride in Colorado. It appears to be off limits.

*NEW Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB Tires

Schwalbes are even cheaper on the German web stores, almost half the price as retail in the US. You have to plan ahead though, since it takes about a month to ship and clear customs.

Did a hard ride on my regular road bike..Ouch!

While I'm sure it's a beautiful bike (I have a fondness for nice vintage bikes) I don't know how we rode gear ratios like that up anything, maybe we were all supermen back then? No wonder it kicked your butt. My low on my road bike now is 34 up front and 36 in the rear, which even then has had...

Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

I agree that the price of e-entry would be a deterrent to someone new to eMTBs or MTBs, I think most people riding eMTBs will be existing MTBers though, either buying a new ebike or converting an old one. Even at that, the price/performance ratio for an eMTB is continuing to get more attractive...

Why Electric Bikes Shouldn't Be Allowed on Mountain Biking Trails?

The only allies to ebikes offroad in the US will be the OHV crowd, it would make sense to join forces.

    High wattage ebikes

I went to high school in Leysin, thanks for the footage.

    obsolete

In the US, the reality is that you can sell anything, anywhere and call it what you like, regardless of the legislations. Maybe Haibike doesn't want their bikes in a lawsuit if someone hurts another person with it in a local where it is "illegal". As well as George said, the percentage of...

    Vandalism

An 8" folding saw is all you'd need. I often carry one on rides to clear trails. I've seen where people carry in bolt cutters, so I'm not surprised they hauled in a saw. Truely the only way to keep people off an old trail is to destroy it and reshape the land the way it used to be. If it still...

That could be the understatement of the year. Glad you're having fun.

    Vandalism

IME, people will do amazing things to keep using "their" trail when they get rerouted. The attitude being "I've hiked/run/biked on this trail every day/week/year forever, there's no way I will stop" Evren when the new trail is better and more fun. This is one I haven't seen before.
