We have the same arrangement. My hub motored magnum does not do well on group rides since it has its own speed range and I had to continuously change the assist level just to be in the group. if it's going up a hill, I leave the group behind and if it's going downhill, I have to up the assist...
We already had one last year but it's fun to do it again and get comments from different age groups.

Fenders and lights are not the main reason. It's the ability to spin at high cadence and low effort that suits well with my sensitive knees. I also missed the feeling of my old ebikes that were throttle-only. The motor can do it's thing independently while I pedal at my own preferred pace...
Ebike#1 = mid 2000 chinese 20 incher folding ebike, throttle only. Top speed was only something like 15 mph. Sold it and bought
ebike#2 = late 2000 Rayos ebike (also throttle only). I machine fabricated the motor sprocket to increase top speed from 18 mph to 26 mph.
ebike #3 = 2015 Izip E3 Dash...
I am now on my ebike #5 and ebike #6. Ebikes #1 thru #4 were already sold. Lately, I haven't used my ebikes that often since I have limited free time and sometimes my only free time is night time.
So I spent more time lately on my Peloton exercise bike with all the fancy metrics (power meter...
There are 2 ebikes that I can think of that have dual suspension, 28 mph capable, and has a throttle.
One is Luna cycle

And the other is the FLX ebike.

You can actually lower the tire pressure into the 40's psi range (minus 5 psi in the front). I also do the old school way of checking tire pressure. If I can slightly squeeze by hand the opposing side walls (of course, I double checked it with the pressure gauge), then I know that it has some...
I highly recommend you get a proper tow-mounted bike rack. I did the same thing on my minivan and I waited too long and it messed up the rear door of my minivan.
Many early DIY people experimented with AT fluid but I think it had the drag issue and the leakage problems. I think a well designed geared hub motor will have a bigger and excellent heat conducting center shaft to channel the heat out to either the frame or the a heat sink or both.
Yes, you are right. however, Suntour went the extra mile by doing exactly that, putting a heat sink to the geared hub motor. You can see here in EBR review going up and down the hill without overheating on the Bulls Outlaw speed pedelec. At 10:10 mark of the video shows how the heat sink is...
Direct drives are associated with regen braking and then PRICE. It is partially true, Stromer is a premium brand thus it also has a premium price tag. The other factor is the use of more rare earth magnets (adds to the raw cost) and also is not environmentally attractive since rare earth magnet...
It would be great if there are demo GMAC ebikes, especially at the hilly areas, So would be buyers will be able to compare different ebikes back to back.
I have also been comparing the simulation vs Juicebike's manufacturer claim, many many times.
Keep in mind that there are a number of factors that are not taken into account in the simulation.
1. Tora is an athletic person (an olympian in fact). A seasoned cyclist can kick out 1,000 watts in...
Since the GMAC is a geared motor (in contrast to direct hub drives), it has quicker acceleration and deceleration which is very helpful in hilly roads. At the 3:20 mark of the video, it demonstrates the use regen braking alone (without the mechanical brake) to stop from a steep downhill. That...
There was a time when brake weight transfer concept was not applied to bicycles and the overwhelming majority of bicycles only have rear brakes. As long as the rear wheel does not lift or lose traction, the rear brakes were adequate during that era.
Taking into account the weight transfer to...
I don't know if Elby has carried over the Bionx's manual regen mode function but I'm pretty sure that the regen is intergrated with the brake lever.
Edit/addendum;
Elby also has manual regen setting. Check the 13:00 min mark of the video below.
Growing up riding bicycles in my high school years, for me, the most important addition as a commuter bike is the extended mud flap, especially in the front. This kept my shoes and school uniform clean, even on wet and muddy streets.
