Raising Handle Bars on Sondors Smart step.

It appears that your bike has a standard "threadless" stem. You can raise the handlebars in one of three ways: 1.) replace the stem with one that has more rise. 2.) install a stem riser. 3.) replace the handlebar with one that has rise.

    Gear Inches Question: 28.3 v 27

The difference in low gear is not significant, but there is a significant difference in the wheels between the two bikes. You should ride them if you can.

    rear brake pads are squealing

You have worn it out because you aren't using the front brake. Use both brakes and you will get significantly longer life out of both pads. Organic and resin is the same thing. If you want the longest life and more braking power, get sintered or semi-metallic pads (ceramic falls in this...

The bicycle market and tech are so obsolete.

I have never claimed the bicycle industry is big. Compared to automotive, it is tiny. But what does that have to do with anything? Anyway, I will say it again, it is not possible to make an 11T cog any more durable without making it much beefier, unless they start making them out of unobtanium...

The bicycle market and tech are so obsolete.

In your own words, you said you wore out the cog in 24 hours and 500 miles. That equates to a speed of less than 21 mph. Any real cyclist can ride that fast without a motor. I would say you a turtle rider.

lightweight E-bike for 85 year old mother in-law

The Cannondale Quick Neo SL1 Remixte comes in at about 35 lbs.; $2950. I think you would be very hard pressed to find anything lighter...maybe if you're willing to chance the Indiegogo campaign for the Morefuns Éole S.

How to turn off the power when the key is not in the battery, so the bike can not be ridden away, at least electrically

I'm not sure why it would make a difference if they can ride it away electrically or not, because either way your bike is stolen!

Can I substitute Sram for Shimano derailleur?

No you cannot. Now, there are exceptions. SRAM does makes Shimano compatible shifters (MRX, Centera, and Attack), and there are some bodges that people have discovered. But generally speaking, Shimano and SRAM rear derailleurs and shifters do not work with each other.

Can I substitute Sram for Shimano derailleur?

Did not mean to imply that Shimano cassettes (or chains) are not cross compatible with SRAM derailleurs, or vice-versa. All manufacturers with the exception of Campagnolo use the same cassette standards (until you get into the newer 12 speed craziness.) I was only speaking to the rear...

Can I substitute Sram for Shimano derailleur?

It does not matter what motor the bike has; it is completely separate from the derailleur system. But Shimano and SRAM are not cross-compatible because they have different cable pull ratios. So in order to use a SRAM derailleur, the shifter also has to be replaced.

    Fuji Ambient EVO 27.5+ 1.5

Who is going to service or warranty the bike, and more importantly the electrical bits, if need be? I would sort that out before spending that much money, no matter what discount is involved.

Looking to spend £2500 on an ebike..

I think you have answered your own question. The dealer should be able to add fenders, lights, and a rack. They won't be the same as what is on the Urban, but they might be even better than stock.

    OK Community.

Frames are rarely sold alone, unless it was from a more expensive bike to begin with, in which case it won't be particularly cheap. Why? Because the average person does not have their bike taken apart. They either sell, donate, or throw away the bike en masse. That said, one source of brand new...

Looking to spend £2500 on an ebike..

How likely are you to sell it? Myself, I never think about that prospect. It is more important to think about service and warranty, but that does not necessarily mean the big brand will be better. As Percymon points out, the Forme does not come with mudguards or lights, and from looking at it...

Priority Bicycles just launched the most affordable Gates belt mid-drive e-bike

Brake inhibitor switches are unnecessay on mid-drive bikes. You stop pedaling, and the motor shuts off. There is not really any scenario where you would both be pedaling and braking to the point of needing to stop.

The bicycle market and tech are so obsolete.

I note the subtle change of wording here; "24 hours total bike usage just a little beyond 500 miles." So that could be 24 one hour rides, or whatever. Shimano sells the 11T cog separately so it is not necessary to replace the entire cassette if indeed that is the only cog the OP is wearing out.

The bicycle market and tech are so obsolete.

I won't argue the point that bicycle components were not designed with electric motors in mind. That said, it is foolish to think that you are going to get the kind of service life out of bicycle components the same as motorcycles or automobiles. There is just not enough metal involved, and if...

    Front Chain Ring Sizes

With a mid-motor, the torque is multiplied through the gears. While you cannot change the front chainring (unless the motor can accept multiple chainrings such as some Yamaha units), the size does matter. A larger ring trades torque for speed. Older Bosch mid-drives used a small chainring...
