Bosch smart system not so smart?

The Smart system is a work in progress right now. Even though it was announced over a year ago, companies like Trek don't seem to have widely adopted it. As of today, Bosch doesn't even offer navigation on the Kiox display. They say "Available in the future.", whatever that means. Hopefully...

Hello From Lexington, MA Riese and Müller Homage HS and Superdelite Mountain both with Rohloff E14 Rider

Welcome. If you want some suggestions for rides in SW NH, let me know. I live at the base of Mt. Monadnock and ride locally most every day. We have great rides on local roads, which have very light traffic as long as you stay off the numbered roads. Lots of elevation changes to give you and...

Batteries and What do you do when the manufacturer is no more?

Even well known manufacturers can leave customers in the lurch. There's been threads here about motor problems and the unavailability of replacements, either the whole motor or parts. Batteries? Controllers? Who knows? No one (no manufacturer) has committed to making parts available for any...

    Ebike Chain Lubes

Agree! I'm just not sure which are better, by and large.

    Ebike Chain Lubes

Even a crappy lube, one that attracts grit, for example, is better than no lube at all, at least in most cases. There's a whole field of science here called tribology, focused on the study of friction between surfaces. I'm no expert in this area, but have a rudimentary understanding of its...

    An Old Newbie

Like your dad, my birthday is next month, turning 73. Thank you for taking the time to let us know here how this sadly turned out. I can only imagine how difficult this is for you and your family. All too often, on discussion boards, people vanish and we have no idea why. And we only know...

    Ebike Chain Lubes

Clever marketing. The most important factor is to get lube into the wear points on a chain, the pins and rollers. The nature of the lube is secondary - it matters of course, but not nearly as much as just having lubrication, even a mediocre one. Keeping a chain and drive train free of grit...

Zoom hydraulic brakes: use baby oil?

Heck, even water would work, kinda, in a pinch. Any poorly compressing fluid would. But the OP isn't in a pinch.

Zoom hydraulic brakes: use baby oil?

Heck, it's only your brakes! Especially if you live in a hilly area like I do, why not experiment? Maybe you'll find that baby oil doesn't work so well for that sudden stop and save the rest of us from a mis-adventure...if you're still around to tell us. Obviously I'm being sarcastic, but be...

    Suggestions for mid-drive, step-through, w/ throttle?

This makes a lot of sense. The CVT IGH have somewhat lower efficiency, from what I've read, but as you say, an ebike compensates for that quite well. One of these days, I may spring for a belt driven IGH, but for now my chain driven, derailleur controlled Trek Allant 8s does OK. In fact, I...

Anyone do to the trek century challenge?

It's interesting that with the smartphone hub, I battled bluetooth connecting to my HRM constantly, but with Nyon, never. I don't think the problem was my phone, but rather the interaction between the phone and cobi.bike, but who knows. It's well behind me.

Anyone do to the trek century challenge?

Yea, once I dumped the smartphone hub, my life has been much more pleasant...can't believe I put up with that dog as long as I did.

Anyone do to the trek century challenge?

Wasn't even aware of it, not that I could have gone 1000 miles in one month.... at least your post makes a bit of traffic for Trek here. Otherwise, Trek bikes get very little mention. Wonder why?

    Suggestions for mid-drive, step-through, w/ throttle?

why do you dislike derailleurs so much?

Our Rides in Words, Photos & Videos

Lovely series of our beautiful New England. Vermont is much more open than our part of New Hampshire, isn't it? For example, my rides are mostly through pretty dense forest to the edge of the road, with homes scattered back into the forest. Not nearly as photogenic....

VERY disappointed with my new 2023 Specialized Turbo Como 3.0

Any chance the website spec is out of date? Wouldn't be the first time, would it? OTOH, it makes little sense for Specialized to use unique, proprietary parts in this location on a bike. Not as if you get any real uniqueness or vendor lock in.

    Wabash RT - Best Bike

I don't have any replacement parts. I'm just missing parts in my abdomen and neck, but my ebike makes up for it, as well as my age. We no longer have excuses like high headwinds (30 mph gusts in my area today) or hills. We just go and have fun!

    Atlantic Magazine on ebikes

Wish more folks would appreciate this. I think most of these opinion pieces are click-bait, to get more eyeballs. One thing Facebook taught us, unfortunately, is that the more inflammatory, the more extreme, an article or post is, the more people engage, leading to more eyeballs and revenue...
