    Should wearing helmet be optional?

Well, for one, riding without a helmet is not a genetic propensity, though there's often a genetic component to obesity. There's a DSM code for obesity, and I'm pretty sure there's not one for "not wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle." So what I get from your argument is that that fat people...

    Should wearing helmet be optional?

Then I guess you'd certainly be OK if insurance companies in our free market economy can decline paying for your head injuries in the event of an accident.

    Should wearing helmet be optional?

Sure, I completely favor making helmets optional. But I also support the right of the insurance company to decline coverage for any head injuries sustained in an accident. I don't want to pay for their stupidity through higher premiums. Same goes for motorcyclists.

    Tool Kit

I'm semi-minimal. I can think of only a couple of two times I've needed to do anything other than change out or repair a tube. I still carry this 20+ year old little guy, plus a little tire repair kit with pedro's levers and (sometimes) a spare tube. And I'll have to add a 15mm wrench for...

Where did I say I needed all those wrenches? Please show me. I said that I need one wrench for my back wheel. You wrote previously "and for that matter all of the wrenches aren't likely to be very helpful in making field repairs." I need the one wrench, thank you. And yes, I know how to fix...

To get my back wheel off -- which I would need to do to fix a flat -- I need a 15 mm wrench

    Beware the Bicycle Lane

The WPLG video says that cars should pull into the bike lane before making their right turn. In my state, that's not allowed; cars are not allowed to drive in the bike lane at any time, except to cross it. I don't know which is a better rule, but the the dreaded right hook is one of my biggest...

    Goggles that fit over eyeglasses?

Yes, I definitely need goggles that go over prescription glasses. I updated the original post to say that. Thanks for noticing.

    Goggles that fit over eyeglasses?

I'm looking for a pair of riding goggles that fit over prescription eyeglasses so I can stop the tears that pour out of my eyes during cold weather commutes. I can barely see anything for a little while on steep downhills -- not good. Any suggestions? The Kroop's Over Eyeglass model...

    Tool Kit

My main repair concern, now that I have an ebike -- one with an internal rear hub -- is fixing a flat on the road (well, I'd probably just carry a spare tube). The rare times I had to do it with a regular bike, it was just kind of a pain, but no big deal. For the ebike, it's definitely more...

    Attaching My Taillight

A couple of zip ties and the the original mount (the same Cygolite mount you reference). It ain't pretty, but it seems to be very secure and it doesn't interfere with the second Ortlieb, on the rare occasions that I need a second bag.

    Attaching My Taillight

I've only had it a few days. So far, I absolutely love it.

    Attaching My Taillight

Well, I've rigged something up with a couple of zip ties. We'll see. Thanks.

    Attaching My Taillight

I'm trying to figure out how to mount my old taillight (Cygolite Hotshot) -- or any standard taillight -- on my ebike. It had been mounted on the seat post of my regular bicycle, but on the ebike it's completely hidden in that position. There's already a light on the Kalkhoff, but it has only...

First Battery Use: Drain It Entirely?

Thanks. Knowing this helps a lot. I'll plan to recharge, at the latest, when it hits the 20% charge level.

I should also mention that the store owner in Corvallis swapped out the the 400kWh battery for the 500kWh battery for a reasonable price increase. I really wanted the extra range it will give me.

First Battery Use: Drain It Entirely?

I've read and heard (who knows the reliability) that the first time after fully charging a new battery and starting to ride with it, that you should ride the bike until the battery is completely drained (or very close to it). True, false, not that simple....? Thanks RS

Short Guy here Looking for Right Fit.

I just got my first ebike, a Kalkhoff Agattu B7. (I also live in Western Oregon, though not on the coast.) The Agattu B7 was the first bike I test rode, in an XS size, which was actually a little too small for me (31" inseam), but with your shorter inseam, the XS may be a good fit. Here's a...
