    New Team Hydra Member

@ Acme, you mentioned "The kindernay is taking some getting used to. In the lower Gears it is quiet but in the upper gears it sounds like there is a second freewheel clicking even when you are peddling. It will not shift under load. You need to pause and shift but it only takes a 1/2 second...

My Impression of the Luna Mighty Mini Display (Bafang 500C) on the Hydra

I have the Bafang 500c on my BBSHD and I agree about the benefits. Another benefit that Cuz Vinny didn't mention is that it makes the bike harder to discern as an ebike. I think that this is important on trails avoiding some rider disdain and when locked up at the grocery store reducing some of...

What does Nm really measure and is it applied the same by ebike manufacturers.

Even Bafang rates the output of the BBSHD at the same 160 NM (manual)as the Ultra. This doesn't make any sense if you look at the two motors.

    Frames, Frames, where art thou?

Sorry, I was wondering if I should have received an email confirming the build specifics. I have not and am a little anxious.

    Belt drive?

I'm not sure a belt is a good idea on a 165 mm rear suspension bike. The purpose of a belt is to reduce maintenance but adding in the cog and tensioner to a FS bike (hydra) is not nearly as a straight-forward as a belt on a hard tail. If you want added reliability and improved maintenance, I...

Anyone running a 29" front tire on a 27.5" bike?

I like this discussion too. Seems like something you have to test yourself like different skis.

    FS Watt Wagons

Unless we lose functionality (like dual profiles), I agree with @Cuz Vinny that smaller is better.

    Chainring for the Hydra

I should mention: This is with the 39T chainring that @pushkar is providing standard. I don't think there is a need to go bigger.

    Chainring for the Hydra

Ok, I've learned a few things: (1) A 27.5" tire has a rim diameter of 23" or .584m: Source (very interesting). (2) The Kindernay is usually used with rear cog of 14T: Source. It can be run with a 15T or 16T. (3) If @pushkar is using the standard 14T rear cog, then this provides a virtual 9.5T -...

    Chainring for the Hydra

@scrambler The 0.6985m is 27.5 inches. That's the Google inch to meter conversion entered into Rear Rim Diameter (cell F5). The total calculated diameter is 33.5" and .851 m. I'm looking up the speed in the Kindernay table with adjusting the pedal cadence for 80 (normal) and 100 (hard) in cell...

    Chainring for the Hydra

When I fill in the spreadsheet with a 27.5" x 3" wheel (0.6985 m) and leave the cadence at 80 RPM, your spreadsheet shows a max speed of 37 MPH. This is good (excellent), however, the spreadsheet shows a rear sprocket / front sprocket values of 22 and 70 respectively. So if I input a front...

    Chainring for the Hydra

I was looking for opinions on the Hydra chainring. The medium frame comes with a 39T front chainring. (I thought 1x chainrings had to be even numbers.) On my current BBSHD, I have the Bafang 46T chainring and a top speed of around 35 MPH. This top speed is super-fun on paved paths. Curious if...

Just Finished Up My X1 Ultra Installation

@Reed, congratulations on your X1-AM1000. I had to say no to Kyle for the same bike in order to justify buying the Hydra. I was worried that I couldn't resell the Bolton AM1000 for anywhere close to what I paid for it. I'm going to start a new thread about gearing.

    FS Watt Wagons

I've been running at 20 PSI on my BBSHD fatbike. The tires can hold 30 but 20 has been good for traction and blue trails. We also have the W&OD trail here in Virginia which is ~45 mi of paved trail from Arlington, VA to Purcellville, VA. Beautiful and bike friendly. So I'd put myself down for a...

    FS Watt Wagons

The chart above (from BruceBrown) is pretty nice. I think a 90 RPM cadence is a bit high. On a kindernay, if I fill in 75 for cadence, then a 42T will go 28 MPH and a 46T will go 30 MPH. Good top speeds. 1st gear moves from 5 MPH to 8 MPH comparing these two chainrings. Is that too high? As Reed...
