    Newb chain length/link question

Appreciate the info PedalUma, any recommendation on wide range 9 speed cassette that's durable/good value?

    Hydra as a commuter?

Not familiar with 219 chain solutions for chainring/rear. Probably have to custom fab. Yes belt tension on FS seems complex

    Hydra as a commuter?

The 219 chain seems to handle 14kw fairly well so I'm sure it would work. The 219 chains are also pretty noisy. I'm really tempted to try a belt. They are light, might reduce power shocks to the IGH and the open Hydra rear frame design seems like it would enable easy replacement.

    Hydra as a commuter?

Looking for a similar bulletproof setup, yes the Sur Ron 420 chain would provide that but it's so noisy and heavy. Oset and Boxxbike (14kw) use a 219 chain but they don't look much beefier than single speed bike chains. Would be great to find someone with experience on the best "tweener" chain...

    Ultra hill climbing comparison

Thanks guys, appreciate the effort to be helpful. Yes Acme's riding is in similar coastal ranges a few hours drive south of me. Did a nice ride at sunset last night and it was fine but the low light descent from this sunset pic was a little challenging. The motors of these bikes are great for...

    Ultra hill climbing comparison

😆 We'll I'll try to laugh off the backslap. Please be kinder and read the part where I say I'm not a racer or hard core. It's not my video, it's the full version of the video that Acme shared. Thanks for sharing the clip. Great to see the possibilities and varieties. Even better would be...

    Ultra hill climbing comparison

Here's the full race video with the Travalanche/EXESS (like that naming) HP-e180. Really interesting to see the comparison with other bikes in the race. I had read the Exess/Travalanche was around 57lbs with an enduro style geometry. Looks like it in the video with really solid high speed...

    Turbo Levo v Hydra

Agree with you the bespoke Hydra option opportunities are great. Have a Fox 40 I can reuse from another bike and going to try it but I expect you're right the Mezzer Pro is as good as anything for the Hydra. Thanks for sharing your experiences all around, looks like your area is a lot like...

    Turbo Levo v Hydra

The Demo 8 rear has 3 arms that run back to the axle. The middle arm really limits chain path. Can get a smaller chainring to drop the chain below but then smaller rings don't have great offset to provide a nice chain line. Really pushes you to use a Shimano/Sturmey 3 speed IGH. After all...

    Turbo Levo v Hydra

Rivets, enjoyed reading the path you list to the Hydra Black. I've paralleled much of yours going through Scrambler, Sur Ron X, Demo 8 (gave up on BBSHD conversion) and was shopping for a Luna X1 and test riding a friend's Trek Rail till I saw and ordered the Hydra Black. Favorite riding areas...

    Hydra Black buyers?

Yes and as I read the messages there's a final payment due when ready to ship. I didn't see the option for a programming cable which I'd like.

Quick update on Archon / Rohloff / Kindernay tests

I'm aiming primarily for offroad use and was wondering if a 48F/16R fixie configuration for they Hydra might work for my needs. Looking at the great Grin simulator config that jharrell posted earlier that gearing would require 80rpm for 20mph on flat, peaking at 130rpm for 32mph top speed (2kw...

    Changing tire with Tannus Armor.

Haven't tried it yet because I haven't seen that damage with stock power and tubes on Sur Ron but saw positive comments about Motion Pro and Talon rim locks. Have 1200 miles on that bike running over tons of sharp rocks, sticks, roots and other hazards with no flats. Also moto guys talk about...

    Changing tire with Tannus Armor.

Seems unlikely but wondering if rim locks are needed on these bikes. Have a Sur Ron and some riders use them to keep the tire from slipping on the rim under power. The slip leads to stress on the stem and tears around it. Haven't encountered that with stock tubes and power on those bikes but...
