New Owner of a Epik SE

Glad you're enjoying the bike. I too, ordered the Epik SE from Amazon and the seller was hands-on to check that it arrived from the distribution warehouse in good order, on time, etc. Hey, you got a bag of peanuts with it, maybe for the ride! Aside from just a few drawbacks: I find the bell...

Got hit by a car last night

It can be a matter of inches, really, for life and death. I always try to look eye to eye at a driver when at intersections, right-turn streets. It's tough to hear about the bike fatalities that occur, for instance in Boston on the busy streets downtown, you never know when you leave the...

    IZIP E3 Zuma Video Review

Wow! You sure need some power to recharge that bike.

    E5 error

Possibly if the same error code is used by other ebike battery manufacturers, it could be due to a disconnection. And if your headlight is powered by the battery, also check that. Encountered this error code when I briefly had the Pedego Latch folding bike. Though I reconnected the LCD...

    Pedego Latch test ride

I decided on the eJoe Epik SE which was 20lbs lighter than the Latch, but along with being less expensive, front suspension, more power, motor not on front wheel, was a better choice. I'm only on the second floor, but the staircase winds with two right turns, so I felt a folding bike vs...

    Kalkhoff vs Pedego

Kennyb, I test rode the Latch and wrote about it in the folding bike forum. Great advantage to go with a local dealer, but is there a reason you want a folding bike....try the City Commuter if he has that. Pedego provides quality bikes.

    Pedego Latch test ride

Well, let's update this a bit. Pains me to do it, but I decided to return the Latch. 1) Folding bike, a solid 51 lbs. Still cumbersome to fold/carry up a winding staircase, and because bike security/daily use would require this, a PIA dealing with this every...single...night. 2) Motor on...

If you knew then what you know now......

This would be my advice not just for e-Wheels but anyone starting to considering ebikes. Determine the primary reason(s) and secondary reasons you want the bike (which you've stated) and start with that for features. Not everyone buys an ebike for speed, not everyone buys an ebike for steep...

    Pedego Latch test ride

First to post in this reorganized thread I guess!:) Because my Pedego City Commuter was stolen as mentioned in another post, my priority shifted not just to a 'no excuses' commuting bike, but also security. However many locks will not prevent a professional thief if the bike is in sight. I...

Keep your ebikes stored somewhere safe!

Thanks all, for the replies. I did have insurance so that lessens the bite, but I'm out the $300 deductible and about $200 in locks and accessories. I'm now looking into a folding bike (possibly Pedego Latch) which serves the commuting purpose and easy to haul up the steps!

Keep your ebikes stored somewhere safe!

Can't believe I have to update my prior post. Pedego stolen overnight, depite Abus Ulock and two steel cables. They cut the cables apparently and then just had to break the porch railing to lift the bike out and away. So glad I choose to get insurance, though I think tar and feather is...

Keep your ebikes stored somewhere safe!

Rather than deal with 2 flights of steps, I lock my Pedego on the front porch, an Abus Ulock for the frame and rear wheel and an Abus mesh steel cable on the front wheel, both around porch rails, then loop a long Kryptonite cable around a porch beam through a lightweight cable from the...

    Winter battery storage?

I was about to ask the same question as flipper...since I keep my bike with battery locked to the porch overnight. Is there a general temperature threshold at which I should start bringing the battery inside?

    ebike designed for no pedaling

I use my ebike primarily ... as a bike, using the higher power levels to help with the hills. (Level 1 or 2 makes it feel like a regular bike due to its weight, so that's the balancing act.) And the throttle is very useful when I'm stopped at a busy intersection, in between a row of cars, also...

    New Member With Questions

Visit the bike shop and test ride before you buy. I have a Pedego City Commuter, and a step-through is definitely helpful. I think 250-275 is near the limit, but ask the bike shop dealer about the weight limit; I found my LBS owner very forthright and helpful. You should opt for the 500w...

New idea/system for choosing an E-Bike.

Even though I created a spreadsheet to compare bikes, I did it to narrow down my selections. This system may work for you, but I feel a numerically-assigned factor for one bike may not be equal to two other factors related to another, ie, a combination of likes/dislikes may not be accurately...

Bike Lock for Eco Evo Lite

I've decided on Abus, the Granit-X Plus 540 U-lock (I'll use that for the rear wheel/frame with a Kryptonite cable looped between the lock and saddle) and a lighter Abus Steel-o-Chain 1500 for the front wheel. And it's probably more than I need for security...Fortunately I don't need to keep my...

    Indecision

First ride around the area, these are the two top hills of the Arnold Arboretum. Boston (Copley Square, etc) about 5 miles northeast in the first backdrop from Peters Hill, a bit of the Blue Hills in Milton to the south are visible from Bussey Hill. An 11 mile ride as my maiden non-commuting...
