Is buying a used bionx bike a big gamble right now?

Yeah, I do like the torque sensor and immediate response from this motor, but it does make the tail of my bike too heavy. If someone (maybe myself?) was selling/getting rid of a Bionx kit cheap, I wouldn't turn it down.

    Insurance?

Yeah, but the only Rad bike that’s true of is the Burro. Damn, it needs the assist!

Cycling long distances and climbing hills without knee pain using an electric bike

I haven’t tried that- I probably need to! A note on dealing with any underlying cause- I didn’t think about this until recently when a program on Lyme disease reminded me that swollen knees are one of the main symptons of infection. I know that I was bit in Humbolt Co. 30 years ago, but after...

Is buying a used bionx bike a big gamble right now?

If you have a Bionx dealer nearby, have the battery condition checked. Ask them about the reliability of the particular controller in the bike you are considering- some are supposedly prone to failure. I wonder about that with my own bike, but I haven't found a decent dealer so far, so I'll...

    Dealing with city intersections

Eh, it's a brave soul who would commute on the Big Island from HOVE to Kona on Hwy 11. I once was stupid enough to consider it :)

    25% tariff hits 8/23/18 !!

Yep. That's why I bought the RadBurro now. Glad I did.

    Insurance?

My nearby Walmart wouldn't allow this, neither does the university I attend. I have to fold and load my bike on my Travoy. I don't know what to do with my RadBurro. I watch it like a hawk when I can, but I've already had the console stolen. It attracts far more attention than I expected, but the...

    Rad mini fenders

Yeah, today they placed an order for other fenders that are supposed to have something that protects them from UV damage. I have to say, I’ve been treated exceptionally well by RadPower (they’re replacing a console that was stolen from the trike the day I put it together- I didn’t expect that!)...

What would it say on your "ebiking" T-shirt?

    No slogans, just sweat stains.

    Scheduled maintenance intervals

No chain, brake, derailleur, etc. maintenance? I don’t know, my bikes wouldn’t handle that.

Keeping it wordless: wordless posts of interesting videos

Eh, “Great Value” Walmart generic instant coffee. Cheap like me.

    Purchased a used bike..

Craigslist scammers are why I ride an e-bike rather than a decent cheap car, which is almost impossible to find nowadays unless you know the seller well. Don’t buy an e-bike or batteries on Craigslist.

    Any RadBurro owners here?

I have a number of questions about how to maintain this bike smarter, rather than work harder as I normally do... I work witbout help, and this trike will make that challenging. Changing a tire, for one. Can a jack stand be used to do the front tire, and where would you place it not to smash...

    Rad mini fenders

Mmmm maybe, if you don’t live in the hot SW... Here’s a pic of what my RadBurro fenders looked like after their first day out in NM sun. I don’t mind, there isn’t really a purpose for the rear fenders other than to mount the rear lights, and now they include a light kit for the cargo box. That’s...

    Who rides in the winter?

I used to ride my regular mountain bike every day in the winter, but it was to the right of the fog line on snowplowed roads (CalTrans snowplow drivers used to radio each other to look out for me when they saw bicycle tracks on the road :)) I never used fenders and didn't have a problem with...

Slomo is my new role model

I’ve become too disgusted and cynical as a graduate student, so that probably explains why I really like this mini documentary, “Slomo” https://www.pbs.org/video/truly-ca-slomo-truly-ca/ I don’t know if the lateral acceleration experienced by skaters and surfers is experienced by bicyclists...

Tips from an E-Bike Shop Owner for Buying a Used Electric Bike

A little off-topic here, but since you mention Bionx batteries (which still need to be charged every three months, as I may mis-understand), how can I judge who can be trusted to rebuild a Bionx battery when that needs to be done? A quick internet search only brings up a company in Las Vegas...

Cycling long distances and climbing hills without knee pain using an electric bike

Thank you, Court for creating this category and posting this. I didn’t know that your situation was this difficult, but I suspect that you are speaking to many people who are dealing with their own challenges related to their love of outdoor activities. You have good suggestions here (that I...

How does a bike trailer stress an eBike?

I wouldn't use that. The weight is too high, especially with 30 lbs. Why would you use this instead of panniers? I don't even notice my trailer most of the time and crossing 6 lanes of traffic isn't a concern. You should try carrying cargo in different configurations before you decide.
