Nice! Some photos from my recent epic ride that didn't make the final cut in the other thread!

Dude... as soon as I saw that blue remnant I had the exact same thought, then I read your caption. Too funny!Neighbor DB and I did a 24 mi coast ride north to Oceanside and back today. Every beach we passed was packed on this sunny and unusually warm Sunday at the height of tourist season.
Warned DB that I'd have a bad case of the zoomies, as we were leaving right after watching the final stage of the 2026 Tour de France. (What a finish, what a Tour!) Fine, he said, just wait up now and then.

After turning around at the harbor, we stopped for cold drinks at the Tin Fish at the foot of Oceanside Pier.

Used to get nervous riding down this very steep ramp from the pier to the restaurant — especially when there were lots of people and bikes in the street below. But thanks to a recent brake upgrade and front tire swap, the bike now feels much more controlled and sure-footed on steep descents.

At one point, noticed this blue rubbery stuff on the ground by my wheel. No idea how it might have gotten there all the way from Washington DC, but first thought was a piece of the peeling "flag blue" liner recently installed in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Turned out, our picnic table was the real source. Maybe the same cronie's Florida company painted both.

Not a ride, but this pic caught my eye, Long Island, Wurt Brothers photography.
No classes back then.

Oh I'm disturbed alright...It's disturbing how much we think alike. Must be pretty disturbing to you, too.

Was expecting rain on/off all day and did not think a ride would be possible. It was raining heavily when I got up.
Two hours later the clouds parted, and instead of getting into the car for a shopping trip I hopped on the bike instead.
Logistics dictated the route. Left the first stop of getting some clothing...
Then the second stop was grabbing some new bath towels. Both the clothing and towels fit easily into my backpack...
Really glad I decided to take the bike. The traffic was heavy, parking lots full, and very busy...
Third stop to grab a two-four of Sneaky Weasel beer, so I transferred the towels to the pannier, expanded the top of the Topeak bag for the clothing, and then the backpack easily took the two-four...
Busy busy...
Finally onto a quieter road with a decent bike lane...
Into a park where newly poured concrete pads are laid and covered because of the recent rain. I suppose they will host some park benches...
Then the path behind/around Sungod Arena/pool...
Three blocks from home...
Windy, but beautiful!
I completely understand your trepidation. I share it. The replacement cost for my Stance is significantly more than what I paid for mine, by a lot!I'd combine rides and chores more often if I were willing to either (a) leave my precious Vado SL 1 locked up outside stores, or (b) do the ride parts on my clunky old white hub-drive instead. The fact that the SL's effectively irreplaceable now doesn't help.
I gather that you've come to terms with all this somehow.
