Pinion Motor.Gearbox.Unit (MGU)

Strictly for the tech nerds - Pinkbike run through each of the gates & gear box bikes at the UCI Downhill World Cup round at Bielsko-Biała in Poland this coming weekend, first race of the season! The incredible Hattie Harnden (World Enduro champ) with AON Racing is strong favourite in the women's downhill and if she wins, they get the £100K prize from Gates for the first Gearbox bike to win a UCI World Cup event.

High tariffs have been put on Taiwan Republic of China as well. 43%?
P.S. I don't think the batteries or electronics for Pinion MGU are made in Germany.
Pinion E-Drive Systems, including their motors, gearboxes, and integrated units (MGU), are manufactured in Germany. Specifically, the components are made by a regional network of mid-sized automotive industry partners to Pinion's specifications. The MGU is designed and assembled in Germany to high industry standards.

why not make no.2 a splitter and reduce the cassette?
It maybe what someone tries. The basic design has been used in bike competitions, maybe someone has already tried that. I was mostly interested in its technical comparison to the Pinion transmission. Since it requires a custom frame like Pinion, its adoption might be limited to mostly custom bikes. It's interesting though.

Waiting for an opportunity to buy the one below for my wife...

They are impossible to find in the US.....

Fairly full on review of the Haibike ALLMTN CF in the dark dank Welsh hills in our current lovely November weather.

Bonus of the best handlebar moustache I've seen since the Battle of Britain, and he can get remarkable air too.

Bike looks very cool I think.

Let us see what the Future holds.
To make a success, Pinion would need to convince big manufacturing players. Yes, I can see TREK jumping on the new contraption and adding the SEVENTH e-bike system to their quiver :D Oh, wait. They need to add the 8th system, that is, Bosch SX to their line, too! :D
Now be nice, we only have three currently on the go right now.

and that one discontinued thing that should never have seen the light of day…

Really hope this MGU succeeds. I'd like my N+1 gravel bike to have one.

Fazua?
Yeah, Fazua… who thought a right angle drive was a good idea in a small output vehicle like an e-bike. A substantial piece of that motor’s output was soaked up going around a 90 degree corner. Just stupid

its why you don’t see shaft drives on full on sports motorcycles, the mechanical losses are too great.

I hear you!

Funnily enough, this man -- riding a 2021 Trek e-Caliber with a Fazua motor -- won Bosch e-Sprint gravel races two times in a row this year :) The secret? The man is as strong as he would achieve a better time on a conventional gravel bike :) However, he was the best in the competition of e-bikers!

The first time he started racing on an e-bike, he joined out of compassion to me (so I would not ride alone) :D The next time, he won over five competitors! A lovely person, a former XC racer.

Pinarello dropped them like a hot rock. Lots of motor failures and Fazua was difficult to deal with for warranty issues.

In my neck of the woods, everybody wants DJI and their 1000W burst throttle. We are trying to bring a line in that has them, but it's been tough.
