bike has a cable near the headstock with a tag on it that says "headlight power". Where would I find such a headlight? Or can I use a generic one?

Thanks, Leo

My Tesoro has a different drive unit than your Moterra, but mine has a 23w limit on lighting. That 16w light should be fine.
Wow, stomp, are there headlights burning more than 16w? My goodness!

The Tesoro has a Supernova M99 Mini Pro 45, which has a 16w high beam that I never use. A lot of these lighting specifications come out of European regulations for Class 3 s-pedelecs, which they treat a lot like motor vehicles. Licensed, plated, regulated. The Moterra is an e-MTB (great bike), and when riding after dark in the woods, you can use all the light you can get.

I was looking at the M99 Mini recently, Chris. Can you have low and high beam on together? I know the low beam is 8W, which would bring the total to 24 if you can have both on, but I wasn’t sure you could do that... in which case it’s 16W max.

No, you cannot have both.
Besides, my Supernova M99 Pro pumps as much as 24 W in high beam mode. I hardly use the high beam.

My reference is for Bosch drive units that control lighting through the system controller, like the Moterra. If you do not have a Bosch system, your options could be different. I'm sure that on other systems that both beams could be enabled as long as the system controller can handle the current, but what about the headlight? Can it be cooled enough not to cook it? Unknown. It's an expensive headlight. Do you want to roll the dice?

It's an expensive headlight.
Yeah, it certainly is. The high beam lighting might be worth it if you’re trail riding at night. I get it.

I’m not clear on whether the lamps themselves can operate with low and high on together, Chris. That may depend on more than just the controller circuitry. Point taken on the heat dissipation. The lamp itself could be designed not to allow both on simultaneously, but I can’t find any verbiage to confirm or deny that (for either the Pro or the Mini).
