    Noisy Giant / Yamaha SynchDrive

What was the outcome? My motor is doing the same sort of thing, feels like drive gear wear..

    The Tariff Questions?

Tariff inflation is inevitable. China has four times as many toolmakers as the US, so home manufacturing will be a long way off...

    Giant Ebike Life Expectancy

My 2019 QuickE+ with 13500km on it has just developed a crack on the drive-side chain stay at the welded joint to the motor housing/BB. Going to have a friend try and TIG weld it.

    Trek Rail Creaking Noise

You're right to apply your judgment to that torque value - even screw manufacturers don't recommend more than 9.5Nm for M5 0.8 pitch screws. I think 11Nm is for initial installation of M6 screws on later motors. Mine have those stupid security penta-lobe heads. I guess Bosch don't want folk...

    Trek Rail Creaking Noise

I dropped my motor out yesterday and checked the M5 bracket screws - got a little bit of turn out of the front most ones at 8Nm. Why did you use anti-seize rather than thread locker (Loctite 242 Blue for example)? My dealer has drilled and tapped a few M5 motors and fitted M6 screws for this...

    Moustache Xroad 2 2020 low step 625Wh

DT Swiss hubs are very configurable, with a just a change of end-cap, or you can buy adapters from 10/12mm to 5mm if you have an old set of 135/110 hubs that can't easily be configured for 5mm QR

    Moustache Xroad 2 2020 low step 625Wh

Cassette must have been replaced at some stage.. Cones and bearings are done in my Giant commuter after about 5000km (using good bearing grease, keeping a slight amount of free play and very little wet riding). The XRoad hasn't done much work but three cones have spalling.

    Moustache Xroad 2 2020 low step 625Wh

Bought a rescued XRoad 3 for my wife. Was a bit of work getting the scum-buggery sorted (thieves had drilled out battery lock, buggered the male battery terminals, lost the battery cover, smashed the rear light, dragged the bike and bent a few things). Fortunately these bikes are built like the...

Widespread Giant motor creaking problem - time for a recall?

Check it. 45Nm torque is 29kgf for a 16cm 8mm allen tool. Basically, if you can tighten it by hand with a 16cm allen tool - it was too loose. Either that or buy a 3/8" torque wrench... I'd do that before going anywhere near a dealer, most are incompetent. Oh, and use some anti-seize on the...

Widespread Giant motor creaking problem - time for a recall?

The crank bolt torque is 45Nm, so far higher than a 1/4" torque wrench can achieve. Basically about as tight as you can get with a normal length 8mm allen tool without standing on it... I keep an eye on mine and recheck the bolts every month or so - if you ride with loose cranks; the...

Widespread Giant motor creaking problem - time for a recall?

Not wanting to irk you; but mine is dead silent, with 7000kms on it, and I have 400m of climbing on my daily commute. Have you tightened the crank bolts? I apply copper grease to the crank splines and threads, and same grease to the motor bolt seating surfaces. I recheck the cranks every month...

Debris stuck in the wheel? Strange noise on my Giant Explore 3 (MY2019)

Sounds like a bit of metal in the rim cavity, maybe a lost nipple when the wheel was built or some bit of rim extrusion floating about..

    Quick-E+

The time to pop the stem top cap off would be less than posting a question, but steerer tube is std 1.125" (31.75mm). I run a 90mm 6deg Redshift stem with the lightest elastomer (they are designed for drop-bar roadies that have half their body weight hanging over the bar). Choose your...
