So far so good! The backpack barely fits my laptop so I don't know how well the waterproof feature will work with it in there, but I also don't plan on riding in the rain so it shouldn't be a concern.

I appreciate the suggestions and was going to go with the Ortlieb Vario PS as it can convert into a backpack that I can wear into the office. Instead I decided to get 2 panniers for less than the cost of 1 Vario and got different variants of the Banjo Brothers pannier (one hybrid, one not)...

For those interested, I went with the Kryptonite Evolution Long Shackle U-Lock and the Kryptonite New York Cinch Ring 1213. I've only used them once but they seem to be solid options for my bike so far. It also helps that the bike rack I lock it to is in the parking garage for my employer.

I technically don't HAVE to take it off, but having one that comes off that I can use as my bag for my work stuff is ideal. Also, I'd worry someone might steal just the pannier, but who knows.

My bike came with Velotric's rear rack bag with included panniers. I like the bag, except it mounts via Velcro straps, making it difficult to take on and off. I'll look into Ortlieb for sure!

The basket I'm considering most is the Bikase Momo Basket - MIK Compatible or their Dairyman basket. I haven't found a pannier that would also function well as bag that I can take into the office. A pannier with a messenger bag or backpack strap would be ideal; I'd rather not have to carry it by...

I'd argue my work laptop is a rock. It's a 14" laptop and weighs over 5 lbs. That doesn't even factor in the charging cable and everything else needed to take to and from the office.

I'm referring to a basket that would mount to the rear rack, not a handlebar basket. I have a rear rack installed on the bike already. My concern with panniers are if they make the weight unbalanced if I only use one.

Any suggestions on a basket?

Did you leave the panniers attached once you got to work or did you take them in with you? What did you haul on your commute?

Fortunately it isn't my only mode of transportation. I was going to take it on any day where the weather was nice and then drive otherwise. Thanks for the insight on moisture with the battery; I'll be sure to keep that indoors or at the very least the garage during the cold months.
