And now a Swiss company is offering a monthly fee for access to banks of these micro brain computers that they keep alive for scientists to run experiments on.

You do realize the fleet is deployed somewhere all the time. I don't know what the additional cost to be deployed in their current positions, but it wouldn't surprise me to read the cost would be similar. Gotta love click bait.

I'll tell you why it is different. All you need is to look at a map.

The US 5th fleet base is in Bahrain. That's where we stockpile supplies for forces on station nearby in the Indian Ocean. A quick look at the map shows that Bahrain is inside the Persian Gulf, on the wrong side of the Strait for Hormuz. So as soon as we started this war we cut off our own supplies. Ooops.

The next closest base for support is at Diego Garcia, which is (1) over 2000 miles away, (2) owned by the UK and they didn't care to help us in this asinine effort, and (3) we hadn't stockpiled all of the supplies there. After that supplies would have to come from Japan. Oh, and Iran has launched missiles at Diego Garcia so our stuff won't be safe there either. At best it is slightly less unsafe.

Normally in fleet operations our ships can go into port sometimes and stock up on at least some food and allow sailors some time off. But unfortunately because Iran has ballistic missiles in range and a carrier in port is an easy target we can't do that anywhere convenient.

NSA Bahrain is basically abandoned at this point.

If you really felt the need to fight this war, you owed it to everyone to figure out a way to fight it smart. But we aren't doing that.

Iran has multiple advantages that we are in a poor position to overcome:

1. They have more ballistic missiles left than we have interceptors left.
2. Their location makes it inexpensive and low-effort for them to close the Strait of Hormuz.
3. Geographically their whole country is a fortress where all plausible invasion routes are over mountain ranges with very thin road networks.
4. They have lots of critical targets (mainly fossil fuel infrastructure in states currently allied to us) in easy drone range that we can't adequately protect.
5. That same drone package would make any US invasion a slaughter. At least until we come up with effective anti-drone systems, doctrine, and adequate training.
6. Iran's strategic objectives are clear and achievable. Ours are not.
