The transition

Well you can always find the justification you are looking for.

I went solar and EV a little over 6 years ago. Produced 62MWh, almost 10MWh per year. It covers all my electric bills and that is including AC and 2 EVs.

No electricity and no gas to buy for 6 years. With how the price for these energy sources has evolved in that period, it has already more than paid for itself and I can't say I regret anything :)

Yup, obviously Im guessing this is the honeymoon period until the tax revenues start dropping , it starts on UK EVs next year.
But what are we fixing our atmosphere for..?
No jobs
All robots
Universal income
Robotaxis only
Im pretty sure no one knows

I saw 2 Rivian pickups this week, on US 40 ALT between Frostburg & Cumberland MD.
They looked like a roller skate with the foot out. 4 people doors, a 4' bed. Totally NOT the pickup I need for home projects and no grandchildren. I have 8' bed and single seat F150. Excess possessions ride in two Stellite bins in the back, which BTW also break up the rolling vortex of wind that occurs in the back of pickups at speed. I averaged 21.5 mpg in my trip this week, mostly at 70 mph. Lot of construction speed zones though, and in West Virgina the motorists take the speed limits seriously. Especially people with WVa license plates.
Voiding roof warranty when solar installed is a major concern to me. Local Presbyterian church bought an 40' x 80' panel of solar. They had roofers up there repairing the next 3 months. IMHO you can caulk a TV antenna mast from the side often enough for it to not leak. You cannot access all the mounts for solar from the side, so you cannot caulk it without removal.

used to meet a Rivian on the way to Marlinton WVa,about roof mounted solar, yea and nay,my solution would be to a freestanding support grid not actually touching a roof that is in good shape or get the new vertical panels and use as a visual screen( block"Gladus Kravits" view-old cougars have nothing better to do than run a commentary on your labors and attire)

They constantly pantomime net zero
when Greta turned on them for yabba, yabba, all you do is talk, they dropped her like a stone
I sort of have a different take on her, they were getting a lot of heat from the public, but they didn't want to deal with people who actually knew what they were talking about so they groomed a child, one with a mental disability, and then let her rave at them for a year. Around the world western kids her age went out protesting, driven there in mom's airconditioned car of course, and when everyone had worn themselves out over it all they flicked her, job done. Using a kid was very cunning because all they had to do was listen to her rantings and they were in the good books because children can do no wrong. It was a sort of delaying tactic if you like. While she was on stage the real experts were locked out of the discourse.

Not that I agree with the discourse, it's stupid in the extreme to believe we can get off coal and oil and Nat Gas buy building junk in China from... Coal and Oil and Nat Gas. Years ago they said that "One day soon" we will be making all the renewables and rechargeable battery cars from electricity generated by the self same renewables. A sort of a perpetual motion machine. What we did instead was simply bought more air-conditioners and installed more freeway lights. The first thing I did after having my solar fitted was install 3 more aircon units. But I'm a special case, I won't ever have any grandchildren 😝

She was the photo op child for every politician in the west until her brand became toxic to them and still gets performatory 'arrests' a few times a year, I cant work out whos gaining from that.
Most activists who are allowed in to the inner sanctum of the political soap opera are expected to go along with the script, she just went total rogue and Ive never seen anyone get cancelled so quickly.
Lets be real, the vast majority of the public have next to zero critical thinking and when companies like BP turn their logo green, functioning humans are like what utter bullshoot, but it works on the masses, subconscious bias is triggered.
They do their polls to check and..whoopee, a 35% rise in people seeing the company as forward looking for a better world.
Buying into ludicrously simple fakery.

It takes a little of everything to even get close to net zero, there will always be a "loss" like in recycling you cannot practically recycle everything, when I find recycled products they are generally much more expensive then the ones made from virgin materials. Greta was used, probably more scorned then "Uncle Al".

Except when you don't hear about it. In the Untied States 99 percent of lead is recycled, mostly from 12V car batteries. Worldwide about half of lead consumption is recycled.

That example gives you a good idea of what is possible if we need to do it.

don't forget aluminum, you want something accounted for put a deposit on it.

I have some larger batteries to recycle, a couple of SLA batteries from UPSes and an eBike battery. I looked online for a hazardous waste dropoff in San Jose, and you have to call make an appointment with the city to drop off larger batteries. They don't make it easy. I bet a lot of people just leave them in a dumpster. I will jump through their hoops the next time am back up north.

most scrap dealers will buy the LA batteries,I drop the lithium batteries at Lowes usually( mostly smaller tool batteries) not above sticking a bike battery in there if it will go,so you say batteries plus will take them .good.my electronic waste goes to "Staples".
