New handlebar

Some people learn by making mistakes. Then again, some people never learn.
True... but in the age of easy access to information, better to start there then torture yourself.
That's today's lesson... There will be a surprise quiz later in the week. 🙃

So true. But if you are doing stuff no one has published about you need to take the quiz on your own.

ahhh... so you like that leather... View attachment 209092

If this is your first time changing out a stem.... watch this as the order in which things are tightened is important.

You want to make sure you have the proper compression on the fork bearings by tightening the cap bolt first.
Thanks but that doesn’t apply at all to my bike.

.
A is the factory handlebar bracket, it is permanently swaged into the stem B. I think when they did that, it swelled the stem slightly and that’s why i initially had trouble getting the extender bracket C to go all the way to the top.

After I got all that sorted out, including using the aluminum spaces from post #16 i was left with the original bar bracket just sitting there doing nothing. So i cut a 5” scrap of 1” wood dowel, painted it black, and secured that into the original bracket, which let me relocate the headlight there and tree up some real estate on the handlebar. The handlebar is a little narrow because of the folding design, and this made a difference. Funny thing … even though the handlebar and bracket are marked 25,4 mm or 1” … the actual handlebar is only 7/8” so i had to skinny down the ends of the wood dowel to get the headlight bracket to fit .

I've always wanted to mount a 5-foot broomstick so I'll have room for lots of handlebar accessories! Maybe I'll start with a toilet-plunger handle.

Here you go you guys,..

A broomstick with built-in batteries to power the stuff you mount to it,..

So true. But if you are doing stuff no one has published about you need to take the quiz on your own.

I would rather waste a couple hours experimenting with different ways of doing things than waste 2 hours trying to find information on YouTube, or anywhere else.

I remember trying to find the Torque specs on my motor bolts so I could finally use my fancy new Torque Wrench.
I finally gave up and just used a regular Allen Key.

It sucks when you don't know what the options are, so you don't know how to google it.

That’s $25 canuck money, lots more in real world money, my piece of wood dowel was free. Why spend money when it’s not necessary?
Actually you could use a piece of 3/4” dia sched 40 pvc pipe, the od is something like 1.05”.

For Sure Dude !!

I HATE Spending money on cheap crap that ends up getting thrown away.

People are paying Good Money to dispose of Dangerous Bricked E-bikes that could be easily fixed for just a few dollars

Yeah, I've got plastic and aluminum tubes that I could use and many dozens of old lithium cells that I could use to stuff inside the tubes to make a rechargeable handlebar extension, but it's just cheaper and easier to buy one.

Especially if you're aware of the fact that there are rechargeable handlebar extensions.
