Riese & Müller Withdraws From US

Agreed. I separate cargo bikes because they are often used commercially, and ridden into the ground. The city/utility/commuter segment is exactly how you portray it. Where I work, for every Cannondale Tesoro that we sell, we will sell at least 25 Velotrics, Aventons, Troxus's, or Urtopias. The problem with R&M's offering in the US is that they only wanted to sell Porsches, without offering Volkswagens. Porsches are great vehicles, but they are also a status symbol that sell themselves. R&M e-bikes don't have enough demand to sell themselves.

The only R&M bikes I've seen in the flesh were in remote Kerry outside a pub, a middle aged Dutch couple touring around Ireland and they had every bit of touring kit you could name. They'd come by ferry and were doing big miles with dual batteries etc. The bikes up close were impressive, big and bulky looking and ideal for this touring job on the hilly mountain roads, though the couple were disappointed by the summer rain, as we all were I explained.... (welcome to Ireland, summer last year was a Tuesday in July. In the afternoon. About half past four for a few moments...)

Nice bikes but as you say expensive & rarified.
