We;re done with biking here. Biggest snowfall ever for November in Chicago area. With the long term forecast, there probably won't be ice-free bike paths the rest of the year. Maybe a January thaw....

@46It is 10:00 AM here and there is freezing fog. I am also in California but it is the difference is between Charleston and Trenton. Sitting here I have a pollo, long shirt, thin sweater and a thick sweater. To ride I will need another wool sweater and a coat.

I've been to s Cal and found everything very brown. The green that there was doesn't look natural to me.

Today on a group ride we spotted pink blossom buds on a tree on Corona Road, 94954, as we approached the mountain. We did just 16 miles with 1,150 in elevation gains. It could have been a crabapple or decorative plumb. The mustard was in bloom.

That's the difference between Northern and Southern California. The hills are green in the winter in Northern California. Everything is brown this time of year in Socal.

The Fall = every fly for a 1000 miles gather at ANY spot around the house that emits any warmest, ie doors/windows, if it opens. they mob you to get inside........

The Winter = There is NO FLYS to be seen anywhere..........I love winter.....

So far, here in the Pacific NW, we haven't had Winter yet. It's an early spring, which was preceded by late Fall. No Winter!
I'm close to sea level on the 48th parallel and we have not yet had even a hard frost. I think the record seasonal low has been 36-38 *F.

It's less than 7 weeks now to the Spring Equinox om March 21. We did get a thaw after New Years, and we've put in 4 rides. although it was under 40F. Normally would have stayed inside. Anyway, time will fly and bulbs will be sprouting by them.
When I was much younger, about this time of year, I would count up the number of ski weekends left before the season ended. Always too few, and I'd be sad.

Much less snow and warmer temps around here now than 20 years ago.
Climate change offers some hope for us northern riders, but it isn't likely I'll benefit in my lifetime.
