NSW (Australia) Government Allows [Non-Converted] E-Bikes on NSW Trains

They are 1000w direct drive motors.

I have each motor limited to 500w, but my controllers do not respect my limit. I need to install a dual motor VESC, then I can more reliably adjust the battery current to save my battery. I don’t trust the squarewave BrainPower controllers.

With each motor limited to 10A, the controllers pulled over 30A and blew the fuse in my battery. When the system shouldn’t pulled over 20A battery current. This is an unpredictable situation and I don’t think it’s safe for the longevity of my battery.

It turned out to be this one. You must pedal 180 degrees with nothing and then you get hit with a whiplash surge and lurch. Then there is a four seconds of overrun when you stop pedaling. You can put it into first gear and pedal at a cadence of five and it will go 28 mph, 45 kph. The owner wanted to rent a Specialized Vado for a week when his daughter visits from Europe. This was less expensive and he can fold it to toss into his Smart car.

The transition

New info on the CATL super safe batteries. Starts at 4.00, and shes cute as well. Can't quite tell if the new batteries are already in production, but they're certainly a major leap forward if they pan out. Also good news on the recycling front. Wonder if the new tech is adaptable to...

Our train is smaller and more local. It goes from the ferry to San Francisco and up to the Sonoma wine country. It is used by cycling commuters because bikes solve the last mile problem. Also people take it up from the south to my town to access western Marin epic rides.

Thanks for your concern.

I won’t be running this bike until I get a different controller. Then, once tuned, I’ll be able to safely use an existing battery.

This build exists because a buddy gave me the motors and I had this bike that needed some attention. I only bought the torque arms. And also because I want to learn more about using a VESC. This could lead to MOAR upgrades to my daily rider.
