Brand new Mahle mid drive motor.

I know you know that your Vado SL has a Mahle mid-drive motor, so the "first" here refers to the whole bike?

Sadly, with 850W of peak power, it's illegal on public roads and trails in California.
Good point - I mean coming to market on their own, not as an arrangement with another company like Specialized. In fact thinking about it, this looks to be the first motor they have designed from the ground up, the X35 & X 20 hub motors coming from the Spanish ebikemotion company acquisition originally.

The fact they have it on their own designed bike is interesting, could just be a kind of prototype to demonstrate the motor while 3rd party bike brands get ready to release their models, as Sam mentions. But Mahle are so bloody big they could make a real push with a full bike - maybe they are watching the disruption caused by DJI and their whole Avinox infrastructure; bike, motor, battery and so on. Time will tell. Eurobike in July is often where big announcements are made, like DJI out the blue last year, so this might be a soft launch for that.

I wonder what the EU legislators will do with DJI Avinox, Specialized 3.1, Bosch Gen 5 and the new Mahle motor. It's becoming insane.
Damn! Power is not everything! It is indeed an arms race!

Reading EMTB boards, rumours that this Mahle motor could have been developed with Specialized for the Levo. The Levo Gen 4 was a year late and there was talk of a falling out with Brose as Spesh were unhappy with the motor Brose was developing and back then (a year ago) Mahle was mentioned to take over.

I mean it would make sense as they were already in bed with them. The specs read well in comparison.

New Mahle motor:
Peak power: 850W
Torque: 105Nm
Weight: 2.5kg/5.5lbs.
Battery Capacity: 534Wh, 800Wh

Brose/Spesh Gen 4
Peak power 666w
Torque 101Nm
Weight 2.9kg
Batt 840Wh, 600Wh + range extender

Good discussion about the new motors, power arms race, software and DJi making such waves. Alex bike tester can be quite anti-DJi but very in-depth in industry analysis.

The best part of that video was the marketing animations from the vendors.

Planetary gears are common in automobile and motorcycle transmissions. They can be a failure point, though. My guess is that Bosch and others that don't use them know that.

I saw a meme on one day.
The first frame showed a screen of a TV set with someone stabbing another person with a knife.
The second frame was the view of the TV studio where that person was doing something totally innocent but the cameraman cropped the view to achieve the desired impression.
The observation depends on the observer view angle. If you are negative, the world around you becomes negative. Remember The Doors song "People Are Strange"?

the mahle
Ha. Was sure you meant the Goboa. But that's probably just the name sounds so Chinese and I hadn't heard of them before. The Mahle name plate on the side of the motor is surprisingly cheap looking. Yet I'd seen other pics where it was much larger in polished aluminium. Very German engineering like.

Here it is- odd maybe the one in that YT review was a preproduction one.
