What's the latest in the warranty sector ?
From what i knew Yamaha was great . Most others do only 1 or 2 years.

The best warranty should apply the time period when the bike was not usable due to the issues in other words the warranty could extend.

Ex: 2 years Wtty, ebike problem solved in 3months(hopefully sooner then that ! )

Add 3months to get the New End time of the warranty. Any company does this ??

Bafang warranty is useless. If a reseller has a DOA and it’s any issues needing new parts it’s on the USA reseller to eat it.

they used bulls as an example. but bulls pretty much only warranties the parts of the bike they make like thew frame. the rest is pretty much covered by the manufactures warranties.

But many Specialized owners have had to wait months to fix theirs or get a whole new ebike instead . There are many threads here about that.

An ebike is totally not like a regular bike and it has to be treated as such , this issue has to be treated with seriousity by these companies because very few people have the technical know how or time to open up a battery , the hub motor and other ebike related things .

A min. "3 year/ 20.000miles/700 full cycles on the battery " warranty for ebikes should be a national standard , actually this should be made into a law to protect consumers.

5 years/30.000miles/ 1000battery cycles should be the gold standard . If a company offers that with a 4k-7k max. price , a lot of people would buy it .

What if some ppl. decide to focus on other hobbies or can't ride for 1-2years , then it's only a little bit of warranty left. Time to sell...

In other words as far as warranty, we should buy a new bike only if we know we are going to use it fully for the next one/two or 3 years .

this is America dream on. most people wont even ride their e bikes for three years. you think the cheaper brands are going to offer real warranties? then they wont be cheap anymore.

Not, before CVD, some problems were not due to supply issues. From what i've read , just a longer time in some cases. You know it's a very popular brand ,there were quite a few threads about it.

As the owner of a replacement yamaha motor NOT covered by giants warranty....I greatly doubt yamaha can sustain that level of warranty cover.

I'd argue Specialized are a hugely popular brand, early adopters of ebike technology, and there were relatively few posts about poor warranty times before covid. I'd go so for as to suggest that the complaints about turn around times have more to do with their reputation not being sustainable in the current supply climate - people EXPECT quick warranty from specialized.

We do have a LOT of very popular cheap brands. Many of those customers will change their mind about buying cheap after they realize that they can't fix their bikes when it's out of warranty.

Those same people with the cheap brands are buying 1500$ or 2000$ smart phones because there is a way(the monthly payments/lock the phones) you know that's the advertising ,that's the way it wasc reated by the advertising industry , the same thing can happen with ebikes , pretty sure that soon enough people will realize a 2.5k is the min. for a good ebike.
Most likely it would be 4k.

Add a Monthly plan, a way to disable the motor and geolocate the ebike and then you can sell this expensive bikes to millions of people. Add a monthly 24.95$ protection/warranty plan as well...

RadPower/Lectric/Juiced/Aventon/Magnum and a few others...is Sondors a cheap brand ?? Not the Lx or Rockstar.

I was just looking earlier for a good deal on a new entry level Ydx . Wanted to get the Sondors Rockstar (35mph top speed/1006wh bat.) but only 1year warranty .

no thanks. consumers have the freedom to choose what eBike they buy or don't - an arbitrary standard made law will just drive the price of everything up further. as long as they can be recycled, consumers should be able to choose to pay less for a shorter warranty or more for a longer one.

This situation is very easily avoided by purchasing a bike made from only non-proprietary parts. The kind used by MANY of the inexpensive bikes you seem to be down on. These bikes, built from parts from non proprietary sources, will be around LONG after many much more expensive bikes have been pronounced dead and buried because critical parts to repair aren't available anywhere, or the bike manf. has folded.....

Point being, if you want to pay the long dollar for a bike with a forever warranty, don't let me get in your way. I would just ask that you consider that SAME bike would be available at a much better price if the manf didn't have to provide that warranty. A quality built, well maintained bike ridden by a rider that knows his bike and how to ride shouldn't NEED a forever warranty.

If new cars , Ev's or analog ones would come with ONLY 1 year warranty on motor , and the main parts , there would be very few takers.

And just like with ebikes there are no car companies offering shorter warranty if you pay them . Do you know any ?



Point being , right now, most of the ebike companies are considering their products a "toy" , or products with a 3year lifespan imo.

This situation is very easily avoided by purchasing a bike made from only non-proprietary parts.

I must be missing something. We often hear from riders of budget bikes not able to find many direct replacement parts. I experienced this doing support as well.

Astute builders like HarryS yourself and others have a wealth of experience and expertise but many of us want to ride and not struggle to source parts. I guess I’m just not a positive as you. But as always respectful of your views!

there are cars from different manufacturers with varying lengths of warranties on various parts - you’re free to choose. you can almost always purchase an extended warranty, so the choice is there - pay more for longer warranty or less for shorter. there are also eBikes with one year and two year and three year warranties. for example, to answer your original question, my vanMoof S3 has a three year warranty on everything. regrettably, I’ve had to use it many times, and they’ve always fixed it with nothing owed, multiple times. they also offer maintenance plans and theft insurance, just like cars. r+m give 5 years on the frame and 2 years on the battery. stormer goes 10 and 2.


as long as you’re willing to pay for it, there are warranties out there.
