xtracycle style rack/bags on a 'normal' (non-cargo proportion) bike?

my dream is to get a great commuter with a big ass hauling rack system. i have a welder friend too. is this a pipe dream? would the balance be all off if i got some rails that could support a long bag and a platform for a lg pizza sized thermal bag? your useful thoughts please!
thank you in advance for this great experience filled forum and its multifaceted and highly varied responses!

I think it would entirely depend on where and what kind of weight you would put on the rack. If it's just pizzas, I doubt it would be a problem. But if it is something heavy, or where a lot of weight is behind the rear axle, then you might end up with a poor handling bike, especially if you also sit upright with little weight on the front end. Again, depending on what you're wanting to carry, it might be better to have a normal rack in the rear, and add a front rack to even out the distribution of weight.

I think whether your idea will work or not depends a lot on what exactly (and how much it weighs) you are trying to haul.

Things will probably go downhill and down very quickly if the center of gravity of whatever you are carrying gets behind the rear axle.

You could check out the Cycle Truck Caddy Rack. It’s an add on rack with some serious hauling capabilities.
