Will there be a 2022 Allant+ 8?

Does anyone know if there will be a 2022 Allant+ 8? I'm looking on the (Canadian) website, and I can see the 2022 models listed for the Verve+ 3, the Allant+ 7, etc., but for the Allant+ 8 they are only showing the 2021 model. I'm trying trying to decide between the Allant+ 7 and 8, but leaning heavily towards the 8. It would be sad if they discontinued it! (my LBS doesn't have any stock of the 8 either).

Thanks!

Phoned customer service, who told me they can't say anything about future releases. But they also said there is no set release date for new products, and they release them on a rolling basis. Not super helpful, but I'm still holding out hope for a 2022 Allant+ 8.

I get the attraction, with a higher end controller/phone connection. My suggestion is the +7 because it has a front suspension, a better rack, and is less expensive.

Thanks Dallant! Yeah, it's a tough choice for sure... but in addition to the controller, I also like the gunmetal Grey color better than the navy, and the lights, metal fenders, and upgraded drivetrain etc. are also pretty attractive.

I hear what you say about the crappy "rack" on the 8. I use Ortlieb panniers on my current commuter (1999 Trek 6000), and it actually seems like they'll fit well on the 8's rack. One concern I have though, it I think I read that the 8's rack has only a 15 kg capacity, or 33 lbs which seems like nothing! Granted I don't commute with very much heavy gear, but what happens if I want to load up on groceries or bottles of wine one day? :)

There's also a $600 difference between the 7 and 8 here in Canada (and they don't offer the "S" versions here, unfortunately)... So we'll see. I haven't actually seen an 8 in person yet, but I found a couple of local dealers that have my size in stock. Planning to check it our this weekend!

I’m pretty sure the +7 and +8 have the same drivetrain and fenders.

Really? Interesting! I read that the 7 has plastic fenders while the 8 has metal fenders, but like I said, I haven't seen the 8 in person yet. And when I said "drivetrain", I actually meant the derailluers which I do believe are different (sorry, I'm not a bike expert so didn't realize this wasnt part of the drivetrain!).

Actually didn’t realize the 8 has a Deore set.

Yeah, and my Trek 6000 has Acera. I bought it brand new in 1999, and it has been my main commuter for several years. I just feel like I should upgrade those components after 22 years haha.

I agree with Dallant per the 7 over the 8 per the front suspension and the rear rack — which with an MIK adapter I can clamp on my Bontrager trunk. I have a 7s and am upgrading the battery to a 625 which is another plus standard feature of the 8. Neither the 7 or 8 has a comfort suspension seat post, which I swapped from my Verve+ 3. Consider adding it. There have been many more 8‘s available than 7’s which also speaks to the popularity of the 7. Good luck with your choice. The Allant is an amazingly fun machine. You won’t be disappointed with either.

Yeah, I hear you! I do like the lower price of the 7, and I also have concerns about the "rack" on the 8 - I'm sure my Ortlieb panniers will fit perfectly on the 8's rack, but the capacity of only 15kg is a bit concerning.

That said, I like the color of the 8 (gunmetal grey) much better than the 7 (navy). This is important because I live in Vancouver, which is pretty dark during commute time for a good part of the year. I also like the other higher end components on the 8. The fork on the 7 is only $150 (https://www.amazon.com/SR-Suntour-Mobie25-Tapered-Travel/dp/B07GGXRQTD), so given all of the above, it seems easiest to go with the 8 and replace the fork later if needed.

Even if I did get the 8 and replace the fork, we're only talking an $800 difference which is more than worth it to me for the color and upgraded components. :)

I find it odd that Trek offers the Allant+7s (speed model; 28mph max) in both "Nautical Navy" and "Matte Quicksilver", but the standard Allant+7 (20mph max) is only offered in "Nautical Navy". The "Matte Quicksilver" is pretty close, but not identical, in color to the Allant +8 color offering of "Matte Metallic Gunmetal." The frames are identical on all 7, 7s, 8, and 8s models.

The new "Lithium Grey" color and "Rage Red" color are only available in the Allant+ 8s and not on the standard Allant+ 8 (not the 7 nor the 7s). Perplexing.

Yeah, Ortlieb panniers will work on either rack.

But if you want to use a trunk bag, you may be limited on the Allant+8 rack, which is a lowrider style rack with no top platform to mount a trunk bag to.

That's correct.
I went shopping for the 7 and ended up buying the 8. While I can not put down either one, I will say I like my +8s. The Stagger frame was the hard decision for me and now that I have it a while I like it too.

The color choices are a huge benefit of the "s" versions (along with the increased speed). I'd definitely be getting either a 7s or 8s rather than a 7 or 8, but I live in Canada where ebike motors can't exceed 32 km/h (20 mph), so unfortunately my choices are limited to Nautical Navy and Matte Metallic Gunmetal. :(

I too find it odd that they don't offer all the colors on all the versions - I guess it's a mechanism to get people to buy the more expensive version?

I can tell you that the 8 has metal fenders. Very sturdy.

I have a Stagger and like it. However, I believe my next bike will be step through.

I have a 2021 Allant+ 8. One of the reasons I chose it rather than the 7 is because it has fixed front forks, rather than suspension. The forks have the necessary bosses so that I have been able to add a tubus tara front rack, which is perfect if you want to go touring.
You are right that the rack on the 8 is good for only 15kg. It takes my Ortlieb panniers very handy, and 15kg is fine for normal use. Also, it looks great! But for touring it isn't enough. So when touring I add a topeak rack which fits over the top of the existing rack and raises the weight limit to 25kg. The rack only cost £28 as I recall.
Colour preference is important to me too - another reason I went for the 8 was that I could get it in rage red, which I love!
The gears on the 8 are brilliant, and I haven't even had to adjust the cable after 2,500 km.
I wouldn't worry about it being discontinued, because it doesn't mean that you suddenly can't get parts or servicing or whatever. My wife has a trek TM4+ lowstep which has been discontinued but all the parts still exist on other models (mainly the verve I think). So it goes.

Either way I hope you get what you want!

The Alliant 7 series was originally going to be the Verve +3 Customer's choice who wanted 28 MPH. I ride with a Guy who has one . It looks just like the 7 s (minus Fenders ) The Stem is quill with an upright adjustable riser . And there's rear stanchions for mounting a rack. There was also a Dual Sport Version that ended up being for Policemen . IMO they missed the boat . They should be making the Verve + 3 in both classes. Plus whoever said the Alliant 7 has plastic Fenders is correct . At least those I have seen and ridden have .

The +7 does have plastic fenders. They are very stout fenders, especially the rear as it has a metal spine that’s channeled to allow solid fender/frame attachment, rack support/connection and wiring for the rear light.

Yep I'm not sp sure plastic isn't better for long term looks vs aluminum dented or scratched up
