Why were my town's technicians able to but I wasn't?

Hello again. Can you remember I had trouble with my commuting bicycle and my town's technicians. I could finally solve it. It seems I bought my bicycle with a set of nuts that didn't belong to its wheels' axles, although have the same look as the right ones. I happened to go to a British technician's and he found out the real reason of all my troubles. It seems I couldn't get how the last technicians I had gone to were able to get the rear wheel locked for a long time, in spite of using wrong nuts, but I wasn't. Might anyone of you give me some information about that, please? To be more precise I should say the technician pulled easily my bicycle's nut's broken threads out of it.

Don't know. But if you found a bike shop you feel is reliable for you, stick to them and no one else! Good, honest mechanics are hard to find.

Now, for yourself and your Kalkoff: Become familiar with how to remove the rear wheel from the bike should you ever get a flat while out riding. That way, you can make tire repairs on the side of the road and get riding again. Know how to disengage & reconnect the shifter cable and roller brake (if equipped with a roller brake). Know that the torque washers are specific to each side of the bike. Ensure you carry the proper sized wrenches to loosen & tighten the rear axle nuts.

I write all that because the Shimano IGH is a completely different animal as compared to repairing a roadside flat with a derailleur equipped bike and it's best to be prepared in advance!

Thanks for your pieces of advice. I had already got all that information you have told me about. I can already fix my bicycle myself to a decent extent. I'll do my best not to use any help by my town's bike technicians. I would just like to learn how they did such a deceit.

Luck may have had something to do with it?

Bravo for striking out on your own after being taken advantage of by supposed "technicians". That's precisely why I do all of my own work.....
