I got my 2018 for $2k at a bike shop in Redwood City, CA (ad still up as of today) and later found the same price in SF.
Haven't gone as far as Dave - up to about 150 miles in mostly urban riding - but this thing has been a blast and I get lots of compliments.
As far as I can tell, the main difference in the 2019 is the cap is 28mph instead of 20 (Class 3 vs Class 1) - drivetrain is essentially the same.
I thought that would drive me crazy (hacks are available for ~$100), but for city riding I'm actually happy with it. There's never a shortage of torque, even carrying groceries home.
