Verve + 2 Cafe Lock

Hi all just took delivery of two verve + 2 ebikes. On both bikes when unlocking the café lock the key will not come out of the lock after unlocking.
Is this a design feature?

Based on my limited experience with these cafe locks while visiting Amsterdam (cafe locks are also called Amsterdam locks because they are used quite frequently there) - that's exactly how they behaved. The key stay in when it's unlocked and only removes when you lock it.

I've never seen or used these locks anywhere else so I could be wrong.

I've been looking at getting such a lock for my Haibike. Most models have 2 variants: one with a removable key and one where the key stays in.

The R (key retaining) version holds the key when the lock is open, the NR (non key retaining) version allows taking the key out of the cylinder

If it's an Abus you can check to see if the model number ends in R or NR to tell which you have.
