Using Bold & Italics on Mobile

My text box has the symbols for using bold and italics but they are always grey and unable to be selected. Is this some kind of pay feature?

I type normally, then highlight what I want to bold and/or italicize. Then press the appropriate buttons while it’s highlighted.

Must be a smartphone glitch in the website coding. Highlighting text does nothing. I do see now by using reply how to add the [.B]

No issues on this Android running Chrome and 10.1. Highlight text, select either bold or italic, done. Browser or OS version limitation perhaps?

About as up-to-date as can be, from an Android perspective at least. Pixel 3, Android 11. Chrome version 87.

Android 10 and Chrome version 87.0.4280.101 for me.
No obvious ability to bold or italicize.

Click on the three vertical dots towards the right end of the formatting bar. Then, click on [ ] on the second row that appears. This turns on formatting. Voila! Now your formatting options are active (and no longer greyed out).

Funny thing. The formatting toolbar is also disabled when using Opera browser on Android 10. It was not like before!

Yeah this was something new after the last forum update. The bar isn't enabled by default anymore. I got it working by just clicking around within the bar. And onlinedady has the sequence
It does go back to the disabled default if you clear your browser.
