UL 2849 vs. UL 2271

If a bike is rated UL 2849, it means the entire electrical system (including the battery) is rated as safe. Great! However, if the battery is indeed safe, then why doesn't the battery itself also have a UL 2271 rating?
The reason for this question is that several leading manufacturers have BOTH ratings (UL2271 and UL2849). However, a manufacturer I am looking at only has the UL2849 rating. Replacement/spare batteries from this manufacturer also do not have a UL 2271 rating. When I asked them, the manufacturer would not provide a UL rating for their batteries. This seems sketchy to me. Should I be concerned that the battery on a UL 2849-certified bike does not have a UL 2271 rating? Would someone more knowledgeable shed some light on this issue? Thank you!

If the battery can be removed and replaced, it makes sense to me for it to also be UL labeled.

• L 2271: Evaluates the safety, thermal stability, mechanical integrity, and electrical performance of the storage battery pack alone.

• UL 2849: Evaluates the complete electrical drive system—including the battery pack, motor, charger, motor controller, and interconnecting wiring—as a single combined unit. Yes, it is sketchy, 22721 comes first. UL 2849 comes after.
